One of the most rude awakenings for me regarding the prevalence of transphobia was the horrific murder of that poor, delightful young lady, Brianna Ghey, here in the U.K. The sheer, hate-fuelled psychopathy of the two twisted people whom murdered her… the media frenzy… the barefaced normalisation of transphobia… the fact the conversation became about the validity of transgender ideology and not the tragic death of a teenage girl.
Needless to say it sobered me up entirely. I was more understanding of transgender identity when this tragedy occurred but it cemented the fact I have to… I’m morally obliged to fight for transgender rights.
Brianna’s story is tragically one of many. Transphobic attacks are so scarily frequent and we have to fight back against the transphobes as well as the culture that allows this breeding ground of hatred.
