I think it's the wrong approach; want me to talk explicitly? I know lots of folks looking for porn on X; publicly available sex related material. And there is a lot - at least until a while ago; I'm trusting people I know and told me, I had other interests. And here, most instances (at least the public ones) prohibit nsfw contents. No idea on mastodon.social, or the biggest. But at least MastodonUno and poliversity, the one I'm in, don't accept adult-only materials and they have their own reason not to.
I agree with "grow fediverse" rather than "focus on inducing others to leave X", but the question is: what do we want from this growth? If it really grows, we should accept some heavy risks.

A battery-driven aid must work when it's needed! Or I use them as audio device when in public transportation. Open earbuds, the one which seem an earring, are not very safe when pressed against people so, to avoid in-ear devices which close my ears, and overal to avoid barebeating, I have my glasses which keep me safe keeping my ability to listen surrounding, while behaving as an audio player for music, books, phone's speech when reading information, without imposing to people around me, what I'm listening to.
Camera? They have camera, but that's turned on only if I open a conversation with Envision Ally app.

In office I keep them mostly off, unless in need of description (if computer stops talking, for example).
But they're never on during conversations with people. Unless they just ask "show me".
In this situation, I feel the world is terribly unfair:
you (sighted) could ask me to turn my glasses of, if you feel uncomfortable noticing they're on. No matter if they're an aid - there would be no compromise.
Me, blind, and woman? I have no choice. The man could say "turn off your glasses, for privacy matter" but at the same times he's looking at my ass, my breasts, licking his lips, maybe taking a pic of me with his silent phone, and then placing the material in a non-consensual website (there are many of these). Here in Italy at the beginning of this year, many guys where involved in justice problems after having been caught sending, watching, commenting, pics of their wives or daughters, or female relatives/friends, after they secretly photographed them with no consent. And, I guess, without glasses on.
The situation is much more complex than "glass yes, glass no"

The company I bought glasses from - Envision Technologies- is specialized on blind people, but, I would like mainstream companies to do it. Btw it should be done by researchers as you said, not by hyper-capitalism. I am also following other companies such as Fovionics and Agiga echovision - wouldn't like to misspell the name.

Meta has always used us, trapped us, that's why I don't trust them; my "alert" was because I wouldn't like people to stigmatize glasses in general, because of Meta.

Mine does, because it's the app which does it. It says "let me take a look!" Then you hear the photo sound, and then the app talks again "I'm processing your photo"

@VeilleOff I don't have the Rayban Meta but the Solos. Branded with Envision Ally, a kind of AI "companion" which works like a virtual assistant who can describe environments, read texts, in short it does its best to translate visual world into voice.
True, you can do it through your own smartphone, but a wearable tech can help you looking around by turning your head, having free hands. Carrying groceries, then the white cane or the dog's handle or the human assistant's hand, and the smartphone... Then think about matter of stigma. Imagine a future where a blind could move with a pair of glasses as an aid, and possibly a belt warning about obstacles and barriers around, not noticeable by the public. You could walk without being pitied, just do what everyone does. But talking about current reality, stigmatizing a camera with no exceptions, is like stigmatizing a pair of eyes.
About eyes, people generally stigmatize the behaviour. I mean: you're not a jerk because you have a pair of working eyes. You're a jerk if you use your eyes to spy on my tits when I sit next to you, or you look at my ass when I bend over to pick up something from the floor.
We should start to treat technology the same way. There are lots of privacy concerns, people could record and send your information to the rest of the world. This is a big issue which this kind of glasses have brought.
But these banning campaigns, made just by sighted folks assuming this tech has no other use than spying, well, this is not the right direction.
I'm a woman, I'm blind, I've been harassed by sighted people and also by blind or deaf guys sex-hungry, we should criminalize eyes, hands and fingers at this point; but I think that it'd be better to criminalize sex hormons. (I'm provoking, of course).
And yes, I laugh a lot when the same man saying "you cannot say men are all criminals when you talk about murders and rapes", then says "all smart glasses should be banned because they're used to spy". Stupidity. That's the definition. Simplifying complex problems, just indulging our own fears.

@smallcircles @Em0nM4stodon @index @zackwhittaker @StopdeGluurbril Careful with this "no glasses" campaign! There are many of us BLIND users wearing those. People should be properly informed about it. It's coming more and more difficult to feel accepted when accompanied by a guide dog - in USA and Europe there are lots of rejection cases. I'd never want to enter a shop, a restaurant, a boat, etc, and to hear "give me your glasses" - how the fuck could I read the menu then?

@lostgen @mullvadnet As a woman, and blind person, I don't care that Mullvad's co-founder made a PERSONAL donation to that party. Because what he gets in his own pockets, comes from all disabled / lgbt / black / women... who rely on their VPN and other services, to feel safe.
In the hope to feel safer online, we literally have filled the wallet of a guy who has contributed "personally" to finance a very racist, ableist, homophobic, supremacist Sweden party.
That said... Hate speech is not free speech. Supporting politicians who think that homosexuality is immoral (or worse a crime), that non-white / migrant people have less rights than white, thinking of rolling back diversity and inclusion policies (including accessibility and disabled people's rights), well, these are not opinions. This is HARM, and no politician should support it.
I'm blind, I rely on accessibility, and, I use my freedom to speak, to say what I really think: instead of financing that crap, you should finance disabled people's safety on and offline.
You should replace a person who is in favor with those philosophies. I feel double betrayed by you:
first, because at the moment, as far as I know, Mullvad is the best VPN service for accessibility to blind and with the most substainable/affordable payment conditions.
But then, I discover that it's yet another accessible technology but who licks the boots of MAGA and similar. It means that we, blind folks, are basically leashed. "you have no one but me", and you know what it means? It means control. It means that those fascists could, one day (far or near) ask for our data. How could I trust a company this way?
If you care of your business and reputation, you should at least find something better to say, to get out from this shit. I won't be silent from here; I always suggested mullvad to blind people asking for an accessible VPN, now I won't do any more but I'll warn about this political matter.
I won't ask for refunds, I have no longer energy to lose from here. 15 euro don't make me fail. After the current payment expires, I'll simply go away.

@evan St. John, here we celebrate San Giovanni. It's the same. We also have a plant called "Saint John's herb" I have no idea if its name is international. Its Latin name is "hypericum perforatum", maybe you can find images on line.
They prepare infuses with it, because it's at its best at st. John.
There are superstitions, they say that if you pick up its flower between 23rd and 24th June night time, you get the best of its active principle. It's a medicine plant for MODERATE depression, but due to its liver actions, it can undo chemical meds effects.
We also have a pop singer called Sangiovanni. His name is Giovanni, and as he's been a naughty boy during childhood, so he ironically called himself Sangiovanni as stage name.

@evan In my area (Italy) drinking wine while eating is very much used. No, not to become drunk. But there are several wines, which can be associated to food. Fish has white, meat has red, well I'm not the best person to talk about wine because I dislike it. And same for beer. I rarely drink something AFTER eating. It's a drink with lemon, or liquorice, or even ginger and it's alcoholic. But they are very rare occasions, happening when out for a pizza with friends.
Or, even more rarely, during summer I get Mojito or Moscow mule cocktails. But you can count them in a sawyer's hand!
I mean - those guys in old time cutting woods with a saw, with no security measures. Ending up with one or two fingers cut off...

Only time I got drunk was during a party in 2010. I had 3 glasses. Micro-glasses, of lemon-tasting alcoholic drink. It seemed like a cream, there was milk in it maybe. Btw, I started laughing for nothing, it lasted about 45 minutes, then I began crying when alcohol euphoria ended.
Never got sick, but since then I've always avoided strongly alcohol-based events.

@evan Tags.pub concept is centralization of something that isn't, IMHO. Then, I have nothing clear about it - you can't force your instance's admin to set the relay up!
So I usually mention the bot, together with hashtag, to get published.
And just a question: how to add my gotosocial instance? Unfortunately on the admin panel I don't find anything related to relays. And not on commands. They're documented on gotosocial website, but no trace of those UI elements are on my instance. A relay, then, may fill the hosting storage too much
