@wertimer@clubcyberia.co MAN YOU CAN'T JUST DROP SUCH GOLD OUT OF NOWHERE! As soon I watched through the first couple of minutes, I realized I had to drop whatever I was planning to do this evening and watch it entirely! So lively, such energy, how he portrayed different characters in different voices, the war cry, the joy cry, the fun interruptions, the change of pace and rhythm... the terrible realization I will never be as cool as that guy, even remotely, and all I can hope for is at least a fraction of his authenticity for moments I want to tell a story. Now I wish we had something like that for Iliad... I remember long ago I watched a polyMATHY's video on the sound of the first Iliad's line, it's so cool! We need the whole thing as well!

Por fin summarizing my trip to Peru. Probably it's a bit of a miss I didn't get to visit Machu Picchu and Cuzco, but Cajamarca region is already a fruitful enough place to see! Just make sure to go there in April.
The center of Cajamarca town:
Just like many such places, there isn't much to see in itself, except for occasional churches from the colonial period (photo 1), plazas and tiny parks are also nice to chill and relax at, all the decals and benches and fences are made in the "Incas style", which adds a nice touch no matter where you go.
Absolutely do visit "Cuarto del Rescate", a group of museums around the center with the exposition of archeological sites and artifacts found in the region. Attaching video 1 with an example of such an exposition if that is also your thing, not going to add anything to top of that since taking museum photos is kind of lame, just go there yourself.
Baños del Inca:
Absolutely visit the district of Incas' Baths, I didn't take any (sadge) but it's still a place to see! Keep in mind it's a very open valley, so no matter what you see, there will be epic mountains piercing clouds, attaching video 2 from the place just so you understand "the energy". And there is a bunch of other Inca statues and sites to see in the neighborhood.
Cataratas de Llacanora:
Find a bus or take a car to waterfalls in the region outside of town to have a ""demo version"" of going out to mountains, but please do apply sunscreen, I didn't and the hardcore sun burned me to crisps. Very beautiful though. Photo 2. You just "climb" and "climb" and there are waterfalls around.
Ventanillas de Otuzco:
Again, find a bus or take a care to the Windows of Otuzco. A magically preserved burial place of a civilization that lived there before Incas conquered everything. There isn't much to see in terms of the site itself, but the valley panorama is absolutely worth going there. Photo 3. You can't see the valley panorama to the right there because I am braindead and didn't take a photo of it, so you gotta believe me.
----
What inspired me the most is permanent presence of history everywhere in the town and its outskirts. It's actually very easy there to just use imagination and travel back in time at any place you visit and feel "the spirit" of this place through centuries. And if you look around, you will see there is a lot more of "ruins" and sites around in the region, so there is more to see than what I did in the mere week on my hands. if you are curious, you can browse for any of those names I mentioned and see in maps yourself. Hope it's an entry good enough for anyone interested. Now I am back home reading Cronica del Peru to maintain the spirit of this place while it's possible.
(also I went to Argentina and met @waifu once again, it's the only main touristic attraction in Buenos Aires for fedi people) -

Learning Latin Day 1 (technically day 2 but it's whatever)
Since I finished my trip to the Spanish speaking countries in Latam and had confirmed that I am able to maintain basic communication and read the books I wanted, I decided to take a huge step back and, before going to other fun languages within the group, try to learn some Latin!
My ultimate goal is to read Aeneis / Aeneid, so the first thing I did was trying to go over the text... but even by trying to analyze the words through wiktionary I couldn't make any sense of it, so I had given up on the Aeneis (for now) and downloaded Lingua Latina, basically a book to learn Latin written in Latin, very easy and comprehensible (especially if your mother tongue isn't English), a screenshot below.
I quickly went through the first 2 chapters and understood their concept of Genitive and present tense. I understand cases from Russian, so to me it looked like a cosmetic re-skin of what I always knew, so it didn't involve any learning.
Then I thought I needed some other simple source of input, so I tried the Duolingo course for Latin. Thankfully it doesn't force you to grind same simple exercises every day and you can skip units by taking preemptive exams instead. So I "speedran" to Unit 7 where they introduced direct objects, and so I got to see Accusative! It's also something we have in Russian, so it didn't break my brains, and then I could use either "a something", "of something", "in something" and "do a something". So, yes, Duo isn't a waste of time if you don't let yourself waste any time in it. Idk a screenshot below.
That was quite enough already! Then I needed to slow down with grammar and accumulate some vocabulary. Reading only Lingua Latina was a bit boring for the lack of cool topics, and Aeneis was still too overly complex for me to even begin to call it "reading", so I actually remembered I really liked some classical hymns of Stabat Mater, which were written... in Latin!!! So I booted up my Stabat Mater by Vivaldi CD, found lyrics on wikipedia and started to parse the verses with the little knowledge I had already accumulated (Like, literally, with a notebook and a pencil).
Guess I will end up memorizing the whole thing, kind of how people memorize their favorite poetry, I am sure that will help. Hope to keep this learning journal up! see you later. This entry is a bit too general and lacks specifics since I am covering 2 days here, but if I don't give up on this idea immediately, you will see more specific stuff next time.
Also I am not sure if I have to hide the whole thing under spoilers, I don't really understand Misskey UI. if people complain, I will do that -

interesting how for every country you could visit there is a list of things to do or see but in argentina the first most important thing is just to meet @waifu (he is a tiny watermelon with a face and you have to carry him around on your shoulder because it's so fat he can't walk just rolls)

More or less reading is bearable, but once in a while there appear such monstrous sentences I have to freeze and spend several minutes to parse grammaticaly :sadcat: sometimes with a pen. Partially because you from English expect commas in places where they are missing in Spanish, like "por vía de rescate y contratación", which is like "..., by ransom and contract, ..."
But it's still a lot more interesting challenge than to read it translated! -

@sun@shitposter.world nice coincedence. reading "Crónica del Perú" now by a Spanish priest who joined the conquistas back then he literally writes (well, no literally, I deepl it from esp)"""In the course of this voyage and the discovery of so many lands, the prudent reader will be able to consider how much hardship, hunger and thirst, fear, danger, and death the Spaniards endured. How much bloodshed and lives were lost. [ ... ] Some of the governors and captains sinisterly inflicted many vexations and harm on the Indians. The Indians, in order to defend themselves, took up arms and killed many Christians, including some captains. This caused these Indians to suffer cruel torments, being burned and given other harsh deaths. I cannot help but wonder, since God's judgments are very just, how He allowed these people to suffer so many evils from the Spaniards."""
