Learning Latin Day 1 (technically day 2 but it's whatever)
Since I finished my trip to the Spanish speaking countries in Latam and had confirmed that I am able to maintain basic communication and read the books I wanted, I decided to take a huge step back and, before going to other fun languages within the group, try to learn some Latin!

My ultimate goal is to read Aeneis / Aeneid, so the first thing I did was trying to go over the text... but even by trying to analyze the words through wiktionary I couldn't make any sense of it, so I had given up on the Aeneis (for now) and downloaded Lingua Latina, basically a book to learn Latin written in Latin, very easy and comprehensible (especially if your mother tongue isn't English), a screenshot below.

I quickly went through the first 2 chapters and understood their concept of Genitive and present tense. I understand cases from Russian, so to me it looked like a cosmetic re-skin of what I always knew, so it didn't involve any learning.

Then I thought I needed some other simple source of input, so I tried the Duolingo course for Latin. Thankfully it doesn't force you to grind same simple exercises every day and you can skip units by taking preemptive exams instead. So I "speedran" to Unit 7 where they introduced direct objects, and so I got to see Accusative! It's also something we have in Russian, so it didn't break my brains, and then I could use either "a something", "of something", "in something" and "do a something". So, yes, Duo isn't a waste of time if you don't let yourself waste any time in it. Idk a screenshot below.

That was quite enough already! Then I needed to slow down with grammar and accumulate some vocabulary. Reading only Lingua Latina was a bit boring for the lack of cool topics, and Aeneis was still too overly complex for me to even begin to call it "reading", so I actually remembered I really liked some classical hymns of Stabat Mater, which were written... in Latin!!! So I booted up my Stabat Mater by Vivaldi CD, found lyrics on wikipedia and started to parse the verses with the little knowledge I had already accumulated (Like, literally, with a notebook and a pencil).

Guess I will end up memorizing the whole thing, kind of how people memorize their favorite poetry, I am sure that will help. Hope to keep this learning journal up! see you later. This entry is a bit too general and lacks specifics since I am covering 2 days here, but if I don't give up on this idea immediately, you will see more specific stuff next time.

Also I am not sure if I have to hide the whole thing under spoilers, I don't really understand Misskey UI. if people complain, I will do that
