@evan I don’t know. I’ve assumed that you want the longer-form answers that go beyond the checkbox and have intentionally crafted your polls not to have easy, clear, mutually-exclusive choices. I’ve been taking them as writing prompts to take a paragraph or two explaining why it’s a hard choice, or clarifying my assumptions about the meaning of the question.

Puce, apricot, chartreuse, and mauve, by the way, are all the tools of oppression. Selecting one would make me complicit.

@evan I have smart friends. If they’re all wrong, it’s probably actually me who is wrong.

@evan Okay, now I’ve meditated every day this year. Thank you for the prompt.

The thing about social media that the Federated Social Web doesn’t fix is how utterly exhausting it is to be attached to my own opinions.

@evan This raises important related questions to me because I’m a STEM/STEAM instructor inasmuch as I’m anything these days. Do we start at basic principles or do we start with something much more high level that hides layers of complexity? I tend to think demystifying technology is more important than the pragma around controlling it. But they shouldn’t be mutually exclusive, so my answer here is basically agree. Everyone should have access to learn programming (defined broadly)

@evan Thank you! I should have written "rolling back code after any change has been made to or in the database", not just schema changes.

Just thinking out loud here: maybe I should make a dump of the entire database and let that sit in a directory above docroot, and just check that into git. I mean, it's code. Minimal changes mean minimal storage requirements.

I'm starting to get the sense that there's a reason why large projects hire people that are smarter than me.

Anyone have suggestions for workflow developing a site with a database-driven CMS? (#Wordpress but I’ve wrestled with the same question regarding #Drupal and other systems.) #Git seems necessary but insufficient because rolling back code after schema changes have been made can mess stuff up. There are a lot of references online but few address this question and I haven’t yet seen one that addresses it well. I’ve been doing this 28 years now and workflow still perplexes me.

@evan It's not worthwhile to dwell on regrets, but if I'm honest, I wasted my time and energy in my education both in my choice of school and how I chose to take advantage of it. I don't regret having traveled my path, but I recognize that I did not do the things that would have benefited me both in the things I desire now and the things I desired then. I'm a strong no.

@evan people who operate boats, ships, and motorcycles are referred to as pilots. So that gets you Gilligan’s Island and Then Came Bronson.

@cwebber @evan if we’re talking about federated sites using different protocols is it the multifediverse? (And is there a mirror fediverse filled with evil goateed versions of ourselves?)

@evan just did yesterday! Planning to try a Pleroma installation soon. Sadly I’m probably going to take down my pump.io instance very soon.
