I guess #Mozilla will notice only when they are done for that the #privacy and #FOSS loving crowd, who has been spreading the word and deploying #Firefox for decades, is pretty much the only reason why their browser is still alive and still (and just barely) relevant at this point.

Mozilla: Please, stop following the #AI way! You are about to lose the last users still acting as multiplicators — those who choose Firefox because of its privacy features and #FreeSoftware nature. Nobody will give a damn about your product if turns up being just another browser with intransparent corpo AI crap just like #Chrome, #Edge and whatever the rest comes up with.

Turn this ship around and focus more on user donations, privacy features and a free web. That is why I picked Firefox when it released and this is what we desperately need today. At this point I don't think you have many chances left. 😞

@Jonas The decentral alternatives are all equally bad when it comes to convenience and reliability. On both XMPP and Matrix there sometimes issues with encryption and it is never clear why that is.

Unless decentralized alternatives don't toughen up and get this kind of issues fixed I don't see anyone switching from Signal without a "tech background". 🤷

I like my decentral alternatives but they are not remotely close to #Signal (or even #Threema) when it comes to "ease of use".

@Suiseiseki Sure, but Plasmas Network Manager GUI provides such options while Gnome does not.

As a #Plasma user I simply don't know how to automatically launch specific #OpenVPN / #VPN connections on #Gnome. Would also be interested in how to tie this to specific cable/wifi networks. Can anyone help me out?

Wie wichtig unabhängige und freie Bezugsquellen von Apps auf Smartphones sind, zeigt der schon 8 Jahre alte, aber nach wie vor eindrückliche Artikel von @grote zur lokalen Nutzung von :fdroid: @fdroidorg auf #Kuba.

Dort war auch mangels Infrastruktur kein Zugriff über #Google auf neue Software möglich. Dank #FDroid konnte man sich aber auch ohne Internet mit Apps versorgen.

Zwar mag es sein, dass es etwas weniger #Malware unter Android geben dürfte, doch das eigentlich Ziel scheint ein anderes zu sein:

Google schließt Schritt für Schritt sein System ab. Man will unliebsame Konkurrenz (u.a. #FDroid) und auch Apps loswerden. Devs von Apps wie #Revanced, #NewPipe, diverse Tracking- und Adblocker wird Google sicher nicht ohne weiteres mehr gewähren lassen. #Google gängelt schon jetzt insbesondere Projekte wie #Conversations oder #Öffi über den #PlayStore. Auch an anderen Stellen wird die Offenheit eingeschränkt, um freie Alternativen langfristig in Ketten zu legen.

Wir brauchen dringend eine breit aufgestellte Kampagne, die sich gegen diese gefährliche Entwicklung stemmt. ✊ @fsfe @edri @fsf @Framasoft @Datenpunks @digiges @Endof10 @fdroidorg

@daniel What frustrates me the most about #Matrix is that Vector clusterfucked the client situation themselves. Having a de facto default, "go-to" Matrix client with feature parity across all platforms was one of the biggest strengths. Now we have feature split between two official clients. And the one they promote these days is still an unfinished beta. 🤯 It is absolutely mindboggling how you can screw up this bad.

😐 Ich finds ja spannend, wie viele Leute gerade im Rahmen der Einführung von Werbung bei #WhatsApp nölen, man möge bitte nicht andere zentrale Dienste wie #Signal und Co empfehlen und nutzen, sondern föderierende wie #Matrix und #XMPP. Ich finde es nicht verkehrt, darauf hinzuweisen. Aber ignorant bis arrogant finde ich es, so zu tun als ob das alles total trivial und easy wäre. Die meisten Leute wollen einfach nur Chatten und und das im Idealfall auch möglichst sicher. Die mentalen Kapas für komplexe Lösungen sind leider zunehmend begrenzt.

XMPP und Matrix sind auch heute noch in der Föderation Clusterfucks, die meilenweit hinter der Usability und dem Komfort der zentralen Dienste hinterherhinken. Das liegt teilweise auch ihrer föderierenden Natur – aber wie weit sie dann tatsächlich von einer reibungslosen Nutzbarkeit in vielen Szenarien weg sind, ist das größte Problem. Gut zu sehen am Beispiel Matrix/Element, wo man alles hätte besser machen können. (1/?)
