The unhoused population in Sioux Falls is increasing, so the city is proposing spending $70,000...to build a fence around a homeless shelter. Not increase the budget for services to actually help people.
Look, I know this is a conversation that can't be nuanced in 500 characters, but imagine how many services that could pay for. How many beds. Job programs. Addiction recovery services. Groceries!
I heard we're getting quote posts! TBH I like that option, it lets me pull my following into conversations more easily, though I know not everyone is for this.
My thought is, you can already quote post by copying the link to the post, but OP doesn't find out about it unless you tag them. I'd prefer to get the notification so that I'm aware if someone is trying to instigate harassment.
Also - it looks like there's going to be an option to make a post not quote-able, and to remove a post from a quote. These features are on BlueSky and it's been great for shutting down trolls. If they're adding quotes, this feels like a good way to do it.
Doctor says I need to lower my stress levels. Good thing I'm in a line of work where I am never stressed out, and nothing major is happening in the world to raise my blood pressure. /sarcasm
I made it through customs! The agent asked if I bought anything overseas and I said jewelry and he said “Nice, expensive jewelry or like what you’re wearing now?” So if anyone has any aloe on them I need to treat this burn
For no reason at all I’d like to mention that in 10th grade my school did a production of Scarlet Pimpernel and I helped build a fully functional guillotine and I could probably do it again if I needed to
Treatment for Autistic Burnout: The Myth of “Back To Normal”
I have written before about the causes and ways to cope with autistic burnout. In fact, in December, I conducted a training on how to support autistic adults who are experiencing autistic burnout. The recording is available for home study, and the group who attended live was fantastic, asking great questions and clearly understanding the importance of the topic. One question that I get from autistic clients,…
In my experience speaking on this topic, I do not think I can call this an "unpopular opinion," as there are many who agree with me. At the same time, I have also been yelled at for bringing this up. I will call it a divisive opinion. I wish we would strike "drug-seeking behavior" from our collective vocabulary. In case you are not familiar, it is a term used when an individual requests medication from a physician, and the…
Don’t let me tell you how to live your life; with that said, I wish I could tell Past Amy when I started writing and had to have a “social media presence” for my gigs that she should diversify because at the time someone told me it was better to go all in on one platform than to half-ass a dozen accounts, so I put all my focus on Twitter. Just putting this out into the universe in case anyone can learn from my foolishness.
It has been a while since I released A Year of Resiliency, and I felt like it was time to put another journal out there. What is a pervasive human experience? Bullshit! With that, I bring you: Inhale Serenity, Exhale Bullshit, featuring Armani. Instead of a series of prompts, this journal reminds you to look at what's positive while still acknowledging the negative.
Does the Fediverse have the capacity for private groups?
Asking because I'm in some Facebook groups for therapists (resource sharing, general support, not private client info!) and many are looking to ditch Meta finally but are struggling to find alternatives.
Basically needs to be a closed community that can be moderated.
I know losing a platform means losing community. I know (first-hand) how crushing that can be. How exhausting it can be to have to rebuild somewhere else.
This is why we need spaces that aren't owned by corporations or billionaires who can just take it away from us with a snap.
So if you are here because your old space is shut down, welcome 💜
I know it might be hard for former Tik Tok users to scroll an app that doesn’t make noise so I’d like to volunteer to come to your home and yell random things as you scroll Mastodon
Oh I finally got a response about jury duty! They dismissed me. Apparently in South Dakota “I have to work” is excusable (which, I did not ask to be excused, just to move the date)
The form also said you can be excused if you’re retired, disabled, or have a child care conflict. So…who even serves on juries here?!
Psychologist, writer, author, speaker. I’m licensed in a few states and living in South Dakota. Or 12 pigeons in a trench coat. I hope you like memes and cat pictures. #ActuallyAutistic, #ActuallyADHD. She/her:rickroll:Please no DMs unless we're mutuals or if I specifically say it's ok.
