Y'all, we're back for another year and we want you to be a part of our 100% community driven, Blue Team focused conference! @BlueTeamCon is an opportunity to share your knowledge from working in the real world of trying to defend organizations from cybersecurity threats.
The #CFP opens tomorrow at 2:00CST. We've made some changes to our CFP process and will be offering support for first time speakers and those who simply would like some feedback before submitting their proposal. We really hope to hear from you!!
Seriously, I think the biggest struggle most CISOs have is understanding the mindset of the rest of the executive leadership team and learning how to connect with them.
Alright so it's that time of year again where all the gyms will be suddenly filled at all hours. It can feel frustrating and make you want to lash out at the "resolutionists".
But consider a different approach. Let's not pick on them or speak poorly of them because they're not true gym rats like you thereby encouraging them to quit exactly as you expect them to.
What if instead, you encourage them? Remember these are people who for whatever reason have decided to make a change in their lives. So rather than demotivate them, what if you help try to keep them motivated?
LOL dared suggest that in reality we don't know what day Jesus was actually born. Was met with the response "I will pray for your troubled soul". This is seriously the reality we live in.
Been on the Fediverse over a month now and I still feel like an absolute n00b. One of these days I'm going to have to sit down and actually put some effort into learning how this place works.
@SwiftOnSecurity whether we want to admit it or not, most of us were that person.
That said, we need to be better at communicating the basics. It's not always that the orgs don't care, we (i.e. #infosec) don't give them the proper information to be able to understand, to be able to prioritize, and to be able to react. What seems so basic and simple to us isn't so simple and basic to a CFO. Much like the inner workings of our finance departments are pretty much foreign to most security people.
In December of 2021 I decided it was time to work on achieving my life long dream of being a pilot. In March I talked to a fight school and scheduled my Discovery flight. I set myself what I thought was a reasonable but aggressive goal of completing it by the end of the year.
Since that time I've flown almost 90 hours, I ended up buying an airplane (that wasn't in the plan), and I studied and flew my butt off.
Well today, I achieved that goal. As of 11:47AM CST today, I am a Private Pilot!
I'm a #hacker. Question my use of that term? Well I have been in the truest sense of that term since I was a young kid. I'm also a #CISO, 25+ years in tech have been good to me overall. I serve on multiple boards as well, back to that whole "tech has treated me well thing". I'm fortunate to be an Internationally recognized Public #Speaker and the Author of "Cyber Security Career Guide". I do my level best to give back to this community.I'm also a #pilot and love #aviation. I live in the northern Midwest of the US so if I want good #BBQ I gotta make it myself, and that's just what I do. If you're reading an opinion I posted I assure you it's mine and does not reflect the views of my employer or any organizations I'm affiliated with.My pronouns are she/her, and if my listing that bothers you, GTFOH right now.Come for the #infosec, stay for #HackerFlightSchool, and eat all the #HackerBBQDefinitely Not a Parody Account, although I did st
