Today I invited a couple friends to the #NoKings protest this Saturday, and they were more open to it than I thought. (Not my most political friends.) Turning out lots of folks who don't usually protest would be amazing. I hope Saturday is the day many people wake up and realize the resisting this administration is not fringe, it's what most Americans want.

Much as I'm enjoying the Schadenfreude of the Trump/Musk feud along with everyone else, I'm also starting to think the degree we focus on things like this is part of the problem. Politics is not supposed to be just about celebrity personalities. It's supposed to be about policies and representing all the people. We can't get better if we keep getting high off the dopamine supply of news like this. We have to choose to pay attention differently.

@dalias All models are wrong, and any model of our world with all its variables that claims to be purely one thing is guaranteed to be wrong at a higher rate. I don't deny racism played a role, but that doesn't mean it's the only question worth exploring.

Also iirc the code of conduct on Mastodon includes being respectful of differing viewpoints. Impugning everyone who disagrees with you is not that. Please moderate the tone for more constructive dialogue.

@dangillmor This one guy may be well-intentioned, but lots of others decided to lie to a bunch of people to harness the pitchforks for themselves. The US election seems to have been driven by dissatisfaction with the status quo, but it will make things worse and not better. How do we get people to point their pitchforks in the right direction?
