It's a little bit weird how there's a lot of talk about how Elon Musk is "taking Stephen Miller's wife with him" and Stephen Miller probably gave Elon the black eye etc. but let's focus on this mindset that his wife is a thing that is being taken by some guy, that's the framing and everybody just takes that framing for granted. I'm listening to #nonfiction #audiobook Attack From Within by Barb McQuade. Disappointed in her mispronunciations, for one thing, and she just mentioned the alien conspiracy theory about "Area 51, a military base in Roswell, New Mexico." Uhhh, Area 51 is in Nevada, you could've just looked that up? I haven't learned anything new from this book 3 hours in, but I'm always aware of the news & politics so I guess if I was a low info person this book would be an eye opener to some extent.

I've never been threatened by a trans person. Never been harassed, abused, assaulted, or discriminated against by a trans person. Never by a gay person either. I've had all of those things happen to me but the perps were every single one of them cishet men.

So I don't need protection from trans people or any variety of LGBTQ people at all. People who claim that are not speaking for me, they are seeking to oppress me. If you're a woman or girl who plans to someday get married, I cannot stress this enough. Do not change your name. Never change your name. Even before this abominable SAVE Act threatened to take away the right of millions of women to vote, it was already a mistake because life is change and if someday you aren't still married and you maybe don't want that name anymore, it becomes a colossal pain the ass to change it back when your bank accounts, your home, your car title, your bills, your will, your social security, your insurance, and any other thing you can name will have to be changed and they will all require you to go through some sort of bureaucratic fuckery from mild to extremely painful. DON'T DO IT.

I am talking about a specific case here, the tradition of women changing their names in marriage. I'm not getting in the weeds on other types of name changes.
