@skinnylatte I just use my instant pot but it has been a godsend for rice. Stovetop = constantly worrying about too hot/not hot enough, futzing with the flame and still burning the bottom 1/4 of the time because I got distracted by a funny shitpost for 30 seconds. Instant pot, insert rice+water, press button & 8 minutes later, eat. 👍🏼

I’m beginning to think technology peaked with the hand-held calculator. Solar powered, never froze, always returned the correct answer, fit in a pocket.

I’m looking at the old Cracker Barrel logo and it bears out my thinking. It was perfectly descriptive: On the left, a cracker. On the right, a barrel.

I bought an 8 tb NVME DRIVE FOR $$$$$$ and it totally shit the bed after 5 days. On a Friday night. Tech support will get back to me in 2-3 business days. I ran a backup last Saturday night, then installed it on Sunday, and for some reason Backblaze didn’t like the new drive at all, so the nightlys didn’t work, though they didn’t email me to that effect, so I lost about 4 hours of photo editing.

Glad I was too busy at work work to have done a bunch at home this week, but this kind of crap will ruin your weekend.

I wonder it I baked it running CCC to move 3 tb of stuff onto it off the old drive? It got pretty hot but I didn’t notice until it was almost done (both are in external TB enclosures). Maybe when they replace it, I will clone it from a slower-moving backup to keep it from overheating. Still, you’d think this would be a thing engineers would think about? I dunno - I haven’t lost a file since about 1996, so I’m peevish.

So, Other World Computing were champs about this. The 8tb drive I bought was on sale, used, but they just upped and replaced it with a new one. They have given me unflinching support for 20 years.

Also, learned a thing about Backblaze. It installs an invisible folder on your drive that gives it a unique ID and if you clone that drive with CCC it clones that folder, and confuses Backblaze. You have to delete the folder contents, then re-set the new drive in BB prefs to get it to back up under the same name. Fortunately it’s well-documented in their FAQ’s.

@chris In 2023 I spent 2 full weeks so far gone in the mountains of Mexico that there was no option for communicating with the outside world whatsoever. Glorious indeed.
