Transition is always good news. I know that’s hard to understand for some people, if they have an illusion of a happily cis person, but no happily cis person ever transitioned. Every transition is the boiling over of inner turmoil, and even if it seemed like it came out of nowhere, that pot had been on the stove heating up for some time.
I can’t even choose what to eat for dinner without internal conflict, anxiety, and soul searching. So it is striking, upon reflection, to realize that all my misgivings about transition are extrinsic: what people will think, the political environment, fears of harassment or worse… I was never unsure because of *me*, it was always because of everyone else.
gonna start calling everything “Trans Day of _______” now to annoy my partner. “It’s the Trans Day of Laundry” “Trans Day of Take Out” “Trans Day of Sleeping In”
@cwebber I read this thread and a bunch of other stuff you’ve posted here and on your website, and I still don’t quite get it. Is there any ELI5 version anywhere that you can point me to? I have a technical background, and I still can’t grok what it is you all are doing here. It sounds cool, which is why I keep trying to understand!
futurist transhumanist types being like, “in the future we will all get uploaded and can be whatever we want to be”, and then turning around to trans people of today and saying, “no, not like that!!” is a vibe
Every day I drive my computer over the software bridge, and it doesn’t collapse, plummeting me into the digital waters, is another day I’m thankful we have those brave software engineers designing crucial infrastructure to exacting and carefully controlled for standards.
