Like yes, donating is good for people who are able to and yes, people obviously should feel free to do what they need to do to make a living as long as it isn’t harming others but it feels a bit much to, in not so many words, advocate trading your own blood just so you can survive.

@Polychrome @epsi @lanodan Yeah honestly the main downside is having to put in the work to properly populate your feed but I figure “hey, I managed to do it a decade ago with twitter I’ll eventually manage it here”

@lanodan @epsi Yep that’s sorta where I arrived after having had to move instances a few times. “Screw it I’ll do it myself!” At the very least, it means if the instance ever goes down, that’s (mostly) on me and not on some other instance owner.

@puniko I remember there was a time when streaming services were marketed as a way to get away from the costs and complications of cable television.

And then like a decade later, they’ve essentially become the same thing.
