A coisa do "só quero que funcione e não estou nem aí para o que está por trás" é muito perigosa. Penso que, se queremos uma tecnologia mais democrática, precisaremos também de um mínimo letramento tecnológico. Penso que em um futuro não distante, idealmente, todas as pessoas saberão programar, independente de trabalharem ou não na área. É como saber ler e escrever - que um dia também já foi privilégio de poucos. Felizmente hoje a grande maioria de nós sabe ler e escrever, mesmo atuando profissionalmente em áreas diferentes da escrita. Não será diferente.

@sylv_a Signal is not a good move. XMPP is what you want. XMPP (or "Jabber", as it used to be known) would indeed be a messaging system analogous to what Matodon/ActivityPub is as social media. Signal is just as centralized as WhatsApp.

I have seen a few posts suggesting that people change from WhatsApp to Signal.

Both messaging platforms are end-to-end encrypted (E2EE).

Both use the same E2EE protocol -- Signal's.

One is run by Meta, the other by the non-profit Signal Foundation.

O que desenvolve confiança é te mostrarem ou criarem condições para que, mesmo se você não conseguir desta vez, tudo bem – ou pelo menos que você terá oportunidade de tentar de novo tendo aprendido alguma coisa e sem ser prejudicado.

Isso é raro e é algo a ser valorizado.

This type of social-media based interference modifying results in a few weeks makes me think indirect representative vote may be safer for our democracies.

Also, this campaign for pro-Russian candidate was mostly TikTok-based. You get why US wants to ban enemy-controlled TikTok and why China did ban enemy’s Facebook & Twitter. They are weapons.

this observation can also be made in nature. organisms & species, which for whatever reason tap into a large source of energy, grow exponentially until reaching other constraints to the environment. and we know why that happens, it is aaall systems dynamics, which i will be talking A LOT about on this feed, but for now that would be too much for this thread. think of an algae bloom in a lake.

My students always ask me what they can do as individuals for climate, and here’s what I tell them:

1. Vote for candidates that will do something about climate change
2. Ride a bike
3. Stop eating meat (or at least beef and dairy)
4. Fly less
5. Buy less stuff
