Updated the band website to reference our upcoming gig at VCFMW, and “dropped” a couple of song titles.

Lately I've had my editing rig and a 486 set up on my desk, as well as a NUC for footage capture (which I'll count).

    So for me, three.

Adding an ISA Ethernet card today so I can test my website using the only performance test that matters: Netscape Navigator on my 486.

Also, you can INCREASE your retention rate while DECREASING costs with this ONE LITTLE TRICK:

    Come closer...

[hushed tones] make sure the employees who can cancel a customer account have absolutely no access to the systems which can cancel customer payments. By separating concerns, you can literally keep billing people after they think they quit your service!

No losers but the customers, am I right?!?!

Here's a tip for all of you multi-billion-dollar corporations out there!

Make sure to cram AS MUCH JAVASCRIPT AS POSSIBLE into your customer cancellation pipelines. That way, when even the smallest hiccup occurs with your web infrastructure, your customers will be so annoyed at trying to cancel, they'll decide cancelling isn't worth their time and just keep paying you month after month.

It's that easy! Win win! ✨

Side note, one of the best things I ever did (as a YouTube creator) was add most emojis to my YouTube Studio block list.

On YouTube, the block list prevents comments from showing for other users, and puts comments in a holding area where I never have to engage with them.

Putting most emoji in that block list has caught spam, impersonation, catfishing, crypto scams, and a lot of lewd behavior. I can allow the average everyday emoji through, while filtering the crud.

    (Boosts on this welcome)

I wanted to share a screenshot of a dangerous post offline, for reasons.

However, because I'd already suspended the instance which was sending hate my way, I can no longer see the post which caused me to suspend them in the first place. So now, I guess I have to take screenshots of *everything vile that comes my way* in case this happens in the future.

So yeah, go Mastodon I guess- thanks for forcing me to collect my own hate messages?

How many women are on Mastodon's team which builds moderation features?

EDIT: Eugen says 1, and that there's only 3 folks working on Mastodon. Thanks all!

@Gargron I appreciate the prompt answer (and I deleted another post asking you directly in response to Gary's post).

Can I ask for a broader gender diversity breakdown of that team? Because one woman doesn't seem like enough but I don't want to judge if that person is performing the entire task.

    New life hack:

When the dudes at the home improvement store insist on knowing what you're working on *before* helping you find things, just tell them you're working on an art project.

They'll stop telling you "how you should be doing it", and instead just help you find the thing you're looking for.

One nice thing about running my own server is being able to defederate from instances which tolerate folks who openly harass me.

The problem is that I'm the only one who can do that for myself- nobody has my back but me. So if you have mods who have your back, make sure you're compensating them for the trouble.

I still use Firefox. It's still fine, uBlock still works on it.

I know Mozilla isn't perfect, but I still feel they're better than the alternatives on the whole.

I've also been playing with LibreWolf (a fork of Firefox) and it's got some strong defaults, but it's not packaged for all distros yet so it's hard to recommend it.

Does anyone actually want to see humans talking to them at above 30 frames per second?

I'm looking over rendering profiles and I can't for the life of me imagine how one of my videos would benefit from jumping to 60 frames per second.

Is this a generational thing? Am I just old because I'm fine with 30 frames per second?

The funniest thing (to me anyway) about GitHub being down is that they still point their status page to Twitter, which now famously *does not work* unless you're signed in and otherwise displays messages out of chronological order.

What a joy the centralized web is.
