@prettygood @mischievoustomato Nofap's only brainrot if you divorce it from God's law. You shouldn't watch porn/fap because it's a gross violation of natural law and a mortal sin, not for self-improooooovement. :justinianstare:

@mischievoustomato @anemone @sapphire Oh does it support the full spec now? Last I checked it still called itself beta software.

@get @anemone @mischievoustomato To be precise, it was initially developed by an Israeli company before being transitioned to a (suspiciously well-funded) non-profit. Additionally, joining shit often requires going through some dumb matrix.to link in my experience and the protocol had some metadata leak problems especially with it all going to matrix.org's servers. @sapphire actually blackholed that domain on his Matrix for that reason IIRC.

@mischievoustomato @anemone @sapphire Nobody wants to use XMPP (lack of good clients will do that), but there will always be at least one turboautist who will use IRC.

@sapphire @anemone @mischievoustomato Fluffychat's pretty good, though I find it a touch egregious to need to set up Jitsi for this functionality. Also last I checked Element is Electron which blows arse; dunno how good it is but I hear Tauris sucks less arse so hopefully they migrate to that if they're insistent on sticking with Javascript soyware.
Additionally, whatever happened to Dendrite? That was supposed to be the proper compiled lang implementation of the Matrix spec yet it sits at 97% compatibility with no news. Meanwhile they're trying to charge for a pro version of Synapse (fucking Python-based server software)

@mischievoustomato @sampo Hopefully they don't take another decade ripping out GIMP-exclusive GTK customizations for the GTK4 port.

@mischievoustomato @anemone Still dumfounded how in the year of our lord 2025 NOBODY has made a messaging app using one of TWO E2E encrypted protocols, each with support for all of Discord/Telegram's features, that have been around for D E C A D E S and yet NEITHER has a client with:
- Chats with custom emotes and stickers
- Filesharing
- VoIP
- Videocalls with screensharing -

@mischievoustomato For me it was the opposite. The more I learned the more I loved it; everything was easier to understand and use than Windows especially when I got used to CLI utils and package management.

@mischievoustomato IDGAF about the hype all I know is I switched cold turkey by accident in high school after the Win10 keylogging fiasco and have never looked back at operating systems bereft of package management and UNIX utils.

@teto @mischievoustomato Seriously? That's dumb, oldass python versions are the exact sort of thing to be bundled in something like an appimage! (See: Resynthesizer plugins for GIMP depending on Python 2.7)

>As for appimage, it's not perfect either since it depends still on the libraries on the system. Again, another half assed thing.
Isn't the whole point of appimage that it includes all dependencies not already on the target system? :marisa: -

@teto For some cases Flatpak's quite useful (e.g. older GIMP and it's obtuse old library requirements) but I always found them to behave strangely compared to regular package managers. IMO Appimages execute what Flatpaj's aiming for better in my experience plus I find they've been integrated with existing package managers well.
