@darnell But Netanyahu wants it badly. How long are other countries supposed to exercise restraint in the face of aggression from Israel?

@igd_news @theintercept When NYPD announced their fare evader enforcement program everyone should have expected this very result. The police do not make us safer. Was it worth potentially killing 4 people (including one officer) to recover $2.90?! Shame on all NY politicians who did not fight this and who allow a non-reformed cop named Eric Adams to wreck havoc on NYC. #policing #Abolition #DefundThePolice

I don't usually comment on Trump stuff but from time to time I say something about policing.....2nd attempt and this suspect captured alive? What is this one's racial identity?

@StillIRise1963 But isn't it wonderful how most of the people who give him a beat down are Black women? I think the sisters have had enough.

#BlackMastodon #BlackTwitter #Abolition #Police Today's story out of the Gothamist show why transparency and accountability are necessary when discussion reform, but will never be enough. Transparency: clear public info on what police do. Accountability: holding someone responsible for what the police do. Neither stop police killing or reform police agencies, but they tell us something. NYC pays over $82 Mil on police misconduct, meaning taxpayers pay. https://gothamist.com/news/nyc-has-spent-82-million-on-police-misconduct-lawsuits-this-year-advocacy-group-says

@BlackMastodon #BlackTwitter #TurningBlack Hear me out for a minute y'all....if we could find the thing Harris ate or drank that turned her black , listen we could sell it make enough to house all the homeless. White people would buy it in droves for the summers. And then they would buy whatever the antidote was so they could be white again after Labor Day. I mean...I smell billions of dollars of potential.

@inthehands I don't know what method you used or didn't use but the hateful language was in your post. That made me sad because as I general rule I appreciate what you normally post. The fact that you are on hachyderm and you repeated the ugliness made me worry as some attacks are coming from your server. So yeah.... I hope it was an over sight on your part.

@inthehands @KimCrayton1 Not sure why you chose to repost hateful language Kim was experiencing. This is her story to tell and the that of the BIPOC community. Also, perhaps you should catch up with Dair-communities posts so you can understand what is happening. And by the way...read some of the comments about automatically assuming Dair failed. Your own instance is not free from racism...so there's that too.

#Abolition #BlackMastodon #BlackTwitter #HarrietsWildestDreams Finally, Harriet’s Responders is the pillar that seeks to cut off the the ability of the carceral state to continue to oppress our communities. The DC Safety Squad is the center of this pillar. In coalition with other organizations and experts they are building the DC Harm Reduction and Rapid Response Team that can be mobilized instead of calling the police. It is the embodiment of the belief that “we can keep us safe.” 5/6

This summer marks the 10th anniversary of the police killing of Eric Garner. The Gothamist has a nicely written article on how his death inspired the #BLM movement and an analysis of the expectations and hopes for change that remain unmet. It's a good read. https://gothamist.com/news/eric-garners-i-cant-breathe-continues-to-echo-across-nyc-and-the-world-10-years-after-his-death
Also if you are in the NYC/NJ area there's an event in honor of him at Damrosch Park in the city on July 19th at 8:30pm

His dying declaration in Staten Island helped fuel the Black Lives Matter movement, but experts say the push for police reform has since stalled.

#BlackMastodon #BlackTwitter #Policing And in news closer to home, I am not sure how many times New Yorkers have to learn if you elect law enforcement reps to be your mayor, police violence will significantly increase. Under Mayor Adams, complaints against the police rose 51% and there's been less enforcement of punishments against offending police. Color me surprised 🙄
