It's not a confident actor lying with intent, it's a system serving up confident lies sourced from human actors

@evan heck, you used to not be able to attach images or videos to tweets. A few dozen services for that sprung up to accept uploads and offer paste-in links, before twitter formalized it as a feature

I do have another fediverse search idea that I want to try: a bot that indexes for mutual follows.

That is, you follow it, it follows you - the public posts it receives from you go into the index. You stop following, it stops following - it deletes everything it knows about you. Toots don't end up in the index otherwise.

I want to build it as a "bare metal" activitypub server, independent of any particular instance. That's a little harder, which is why I got the personal timeline index working first as a Mastodon client.

But, I think indexing mutuals is closer to the "would you like a cup of tea?" model of consent. (Which isn't perfect either, but has fewer assumptions.)

@mxbck One of my usual gripes is that I wish Mozilla was in on this. I wish every Firefox account had web hosting and easy open APIs to access it for use by easily installed tools. Maybe a semi-competitor to squarespace. Maybe a masto.host competitor. Maybe a linktree competitor. I wish there was a web creator equivalent to pair with the Firefox web browser
