@thomasfuchs Not sure what OS that is, but yeah the option is usually available somewhere. Sometimes not. I mostly surrender to the default on my different devices

Les Orchard (lmorchard@hackers.town)'s status on Thursday, 23-Feb-2023 03:31:23 JST Les Orchard @thomasfuchs Yeah, I supposedly had a heated hose before, but it never quite worked. So I had this like fleece jacket and windbreaker combo covering the hose as an awkward kludge. I was kind of surprised at how fast the thing actually got warm

Les Orchard (lmorchard@hackers.town)'s status on Friday, 17-Feb-2023 16:37:30 JST Les Orchard Whew, this ChatGPT shit is just a great big security exploit against human theory of mind innit?
I'm being continually astonished by folks attributing confidence, intent, and lying to this thing that's just a clever algorithm recombining source material.
It's not a confident actor lying with intent, it's a system serving up confident lies sourced from human actors

Les Orchard (lmorchard@hackers.town)'s status on Monday, 23-Jan-2023 08:15:13 JST Les Orchard I do have another fediverse search idea that I want to try: a bot that indexes for mutual follows.
That is, you follow it, it follows you - the public posts it receives from you go into the index. You stop following, it stops following - it deletes everything it knows about you. Toots don't end up in the index otherwise.
I want to build it as a "bare metal" activitypub server, independent of any particular instance. That's a little harder, which is why I got the personal timeline index working first as a Mastodon client.
But, I think indexing mutuals is closer to the "would you like a cup of tea?" model of consent. (Which isn't perfect either, but has fewer assumptions.)

Les Orchard (lmorchard@hackers.town)'s status on Monday, 14-Nov-2022 03:54:15 JST Les Orchard @mxbck One of my usual gripes is that I wish Mozilla was in on this. I wish every Firefox account had web hosting and easy open APIs to access it for use by easily installed tools. Maybe a semi-competitor to squarespace. Maybe a masto.host competitor. Maybe a linktree competitor. I wish there was a web creator equivalent to pair with the Firefox web browser
