@evan like mTLS? trouble with doing that from what I understand is load balancing. A lot of the more sophisticated load balancers need to terminate TLS, so you’re stuck needing a dumb TCP passthrough.

We’re dealing with this problem at $EMPLOYER and it sucks miserably.

I’m doing that thing I always do. I made it 80% of the way through a project and stopped working on it. If I could put an end to that crap I’d be unstoppable

30 meetings in a week is a lot, right? That's my current normal and it seems like a lot.

@samphillips I normally do but all of these meetings are defensive work for my team. We just had a layoff and have an impending reorganization coming up and I’m trying to make sure they are protected from having their jobs redefined by people who don’t understand what they do.

@samphillips it’s a Hail Mary. It will succeed or it will be my final task at this job. The bad news is that I may not know the outcome until January at the earliest, and might have to keep this up until then

The good news, I guess, is that I’m employed? I guess?

@evan I had poor grades in high school due to untreated ADHD, and my parents were broke, so I had bad prospects for college.

A couple of years in, I got involved with an equity stake in a local for-profit BBS as it converted to an ISP. Quit school to work full time at my shot at the big time.

Later, things went south. I won’t point fingers but let’s say my ouster was a group effort that included all of us. I was emotionally devastated and sank into a pretty deep hole. Didn’t have much to fall back on, so I moved to Silicon Valley and started bouncing around different startups.

I landed on my feet and mostly stayed there, and the older I got the more quaint the idea of returning to school sounded. Like taking up gardening or collecting old computers.

It’s a regret, though, despite the fact that I did ok.

@evan I’m more or less successful despite dropping out of college. Since I’d likely have been better off had I stayed in, I think that’s a qualified no.

I’ve been involved with #BurningMan and related events since the 90s. Almost all of my IRL friends are burners.

Got a late-in-life #ADHD diagnosis and the medication has changed my life. I still have a backlog of 50+ unstarted projects. I tend to switch between working on 4-5 of them every week
