They go on to say that:

The Office also stated that it would not “abandon its longstanding interpretation of the Copyright Act, Supreme Court, and lower court judicial precedent that a work meets the legal and formal requirements of copyright protection only if it is created by a human author.”

I think these are getting rather close to a reasonable case that "AI"-generated code must be public domain. Not sure I'd be willing to risk it in my corporation...

That is an aspect that I agree should be dealt with, but it seems separate from the USCO's refusal and multiple courts upholding said refusal

I'm aware that the case in question was not about any AI coding or even computer code at all. However, the affirmation that:

the Work “lacked the required human authorship necessary to sustain a claim in copyright,” because Thaler had "provided no evidence on sufficient creative input or intervention by a human author in the Work.”

does beg the question of what is "sufficient creative input" for "AI" code to be copyrightable.

I recently configured my Compose key in Linux Mint and it feels like a goddam superpower! Like "Fuck you uA - I can do µA!" and "Oh it's -5 ºC here right now" and £ on my US keyboard? You know it! You bet your ass™ And I can type fractions in ⅓ of the space, so there!

    Anyway, https://cheatography.com/davechild/cheat-sheets/ubuntu-compose-key-combinations/ is terrific.

@rose_alibi My worst one is the self checkout terminals at Kroger. Nothing like being low-key accused of shoplifting by a robot because I re-organized some items in my bags
