I'm desensitized to news like this, and it pisses me off. No administration, Blue or Red, ever has the balls to take on the gun epidemic we have in the country.

Start with the overwhelmingly popular universal background checks. Put in waiting periods. Ban assault rifles.

I feel like I'm in an echo chamber.

@rolle Serious question: are ppl really using threads actively? I remember it taking off initially, then dying (in terms of active users) fairly quickly.

@BeAware I think it's for fear that it goes down a slippy slope and becomes like every other social media platform out there. Okay, we know that won't happen, but I think that's the underlying sentiment.

@BeAware Oh got it. So followers/following can remain, just the posts are lost.

Seeing #PavelDurov arrested is a reminder of the fundamental issue with privately owned social media, and makes me reflect on my Twitter, Facebook, IG, and WhatsApp accounts.

I only recently started using #Mastodon again, and this only further highlights the utility of a decentralized platform.
