@daxtens@alcinnz@digitalRightsNinja@strypey@zeh Thanks for the suggestions for alternatives to Cloudflare. I've made a note in my issue tracker with details for further investigation. Although having a quick look they all seem to be paid for (I'm using the free Cloudflare) and I'm not sure any of them will be any better at identifying these botnets (since the whole point of the botnets is to evade detection).
@clacke Thanks. Yes, my wife is hitting her 20 year anniversary with her employer this year, and they're giving her an extra 5 days off and £2K to spend on travel (so we're planning a nice holiday:-) I was just forgotten about at my current (soon to be ex) employer.
Today I noticed: When I make pretend phone calls I have my fist by my cheek with my little finger out towards my mouth and my thumb out towards my ear, but when my children are making pretend phone calls they place flat palms towards their face.
So today's my 20 year anniversary at my current job (I remember the date because it was my dad's birthday). They used to make a big thing about significant anniversaries. But today? Not even an email.
First toot. Completely new to the fediverse. Looks promising from what I've seen so far. Anyway, day job is a digital architect, but I do a bit of full stack dev on the side, and have an MSc in AI from before it was trendy. Also been a Linux user since 1995. #introductions
@alcinnz@digitalRightsNinja@strypey@zeh What are the alternatives to Cloudflare? I put searchmysite.net behind Cloudflare after getting several hundred thousand searches a day from SEO spammer bot networks. Other search engines like Marginalia have had the same issues and moved behind Cloudflare too. Happy to consider alternatives, especially given Cloudflare is best at blocking good bots and isn't very effective at blocking the large networks of compromised machines the SEO spammers hijack.
One of many Michael Lewises. Day job is a digital architect, but I do a bit of full stack dev on the side, and have an MSc in AI from before it was trendy. Also been a Linux user since 1995. From Scotland originally, but living and working in London now.
