Solidarity happens when interests converge.

Unfortunately, favorite chariot racing team is one such interest.

Trust me, were 2025 to be the year of 47, many of those now vociferously defending Israel would be out on the streets denouncing ongoing genocide as a proxy for denouncing the color orange—all the while sincere in conviction of having had a come to prophet-of-choice moment to know better now than they had in 2024.

Shouldn't have to go this way—would not be better if it did.

But organizing ain't something that just happens. People ain't anywhere near as simple as that—and organizers are people.

Key here is the word "opponent".

That you'd rather one opponent to another doesn't address the tendency to recognize one as an opponent and the other as someone who must be defended at all costs.

On same issues.

Because organizing ain't just about the issue. It never is.

Is about the commitments that those whom would organize carry with them. Idea that you can just slot one opponent in for another and not tangle with those commitments is, at best, foolish.

But ofc, AOC also has commitments.

Ah, the liberal mind, that contemplates organizing as a steady state, where only the conditions change, and organizing does not change in relation to those conditions.

All those masses of folk who were protesting for Black Lives and against kids in cages and for women and for science just kept on doing so when 2021 rolled around, did they?

Essentially, AOC would rather less organizing.

The thing about the trolley problem is that it contemplates only the switch and the track immediately beyond.

The thing about track is that it can run for as long as one has ground to cover.

And there's no guarantee of a switch anywhere outside of frame.

But you can be sure there are more people tied down—that's a given.

Also, this ain't a runaway trolley. Is operating as designed; with purpose.

If your attention's on the switch, you're not paying attention.

Moreover, although my choice had been not to comment on it directly on our last exchange, yet here you've selected to hang a lantern upon it, your usage of the word "myopic" as invective is likewise ableist.

@Shivviness Gonna say that "intelligence" is a highly problematic construct in this context. That said, in #RentierSociety—where one's autobiographical history of choices made underwrites #EgoValue—educational achievement (oft conflated with intelligence) does tend to be correlated with certainty.

Introspection, OTOH, is arguably near synonymous with doubt, in that introspection entails not taking one's own phenomenology as given. Very act of self-examination begins with questions, not answers.

Top of this thread, assert that anarchism doesn't go deeper than anti-capitalism, but instead categorically higher.

Both remain discourses of external loci of control, beseeching us to seize our own inherently internal loci of control, but always as a call to arms against existential kaiju towering above.

#Lumpentheory offers no such narrative of external threat to be vanquished. The hero determined not to leave comfort of the known… will fight no monsters.

We can do the praxis of #anarchism without first doing this work of collective mourning.

But to realize a society where "anarchic forms of organization are predominant", we must first mourn the unfulfilled retrofuture promises of this society—which anarchic forms must necessarily violate.

Thus, #lumpentheory is not anarchism.

Because lumpentheory does not trust that those unprepared to do the work of #mourning, the collective work of mourning, unfulfilled retrofuture promises—those without the tools to sit uncomfortably with doubt and be okay with not being okay, with not being confident, with not being certain—will do the necessary work to "develop the powers, drives, and consciousness necessary to recognize our mutual interdependence & cooperate to get things done as equals."

Sad to continue to hear folk talk like "Progressive" is left wing.

The Progressive Movement popularized eugenics.

When German lawyers came to the U.S. to study how our government did things in the early 20th century, guess what they were studying?
