The plaintiffs are Salah Al-Ejaili, a former Al Jazeera journalist, Suhail Al Shimari, a school principal and Asa’ad Al-Zubae, a fruit vendor. In Somaliland that is. The only fully functioning democracy in the Horn of Africa held Presidential elections today, with over a million registered voters. Since 1991, Somaliland has been a self declared independent republic. It isn't formally recognized as a state by the international community & is considered a part of Somalia.

That's the call heard at a bazaar in London, promoting tourism to Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Several Ethiopian protesters loudly disrupted the event, denouncing the UAE's ongoing delivery of armed drones to Ethiopia.

Ethiopian airforce drone attacks have killed hundreds of civilians in the Amhara region.

The protesters accused Emirati President Mohammed bin Zayed of complicity.

The UAE has been among the strongest backers of Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.

Look at how they care so much about "existential risks to humanity" and how they're so "ethical" as opposed to OpenAI (and how OpenAI was so much more ethical than Google).

Finally, the chatbots-as-search paradigm encourages us to just accept answers as given, especially when they are stated in terms that are both friendly and authoritative.

But now more than ever we all need to level-up our information access practices and hold high expectations regarding provenance --- i.e. citing of sources.

The chatbot interface invites you to just sit back and take the prepackaged AI slop as if it were "information". Don't be that guy.

Someone needs to write about Deepmind the way Karen Hao is writing about OpenAI. The Deepmind CEO is one of the most conniving & politically savvy people out there who's managed to convince the press (as these men always do) that he's some sort of genius sage.

Just read the profiles on him & how they always fawn over him 🤢. Now armed with a Nobel Prize he planned his life around obtaining (and many of us are wondering exactly what maneuver he pulled), the sky is the limit for the likes of him.
