I see these "I bought this Tesla before he was fascist" stickers.

Lets not pretend that its right wingers who put Muskrat to power. Its the people who thought their Teslas were status symbols of moral superiority, while we were screaming at the top of our lungs about who he has always been. You chose to ignore us, along with the mainstream media establishment that elevated him to godlike status.

@SimonCHulse There were many people who did hear us, and chose to ignore us. And it was obvious, just that they thought it wasn't THEM who were impacted and so they were gonna be fine, like when we talked about what he was doing to his Black workers.

@timnitGebru unfortunately the people screaming weren’t enough or in the right places for many people to hear until it became obvious.

@netopwibby There have been competitors for more than 10 years now. And he definitely didn't keep to himself. We've been yelling about him for at least 10 years, and within the last few years is where Tesla stock took off. In sum people don't listen to Black women even though we always pay the price for speaking up. I know how many attacks I have fielded for the constant ways in which I had been yelling about him. I even spent my precious time writing peer reviewed papers about his ideologies.

@timnitGebru I seem to remember Teslas being the first viable electric vehicle and they were pretty cool at the time…Elon also mostly kept to himself so we didn't know how wacked out he was (aside from Peter Thiel anecdotes). I say all this as a non-Tesla driver.

So glad I see great competitors on the streets of Cupertino now; Rivian, Polestar, &c.

@netopwibby people assumed we were talking about some "niche" issues when we discussed how he treated his workers, his eugenicist ideals, how he treats women, etc. And when he started keynoting effective altruist conferences, that was back in 2013 or so. Shit the press amplified his stupid "pause AI" paper just a couple of years ago, and the whole TIME cover, the SNL opening.

Everyone wants to be like "how did this happen?"

Well, no one wants to listen to us. That's been my story over & over.

@netopwibby Kind like how the press does a post mortem on Elizabeth Holmes or others like "WHAT HAPPENED"?

What happens, always, is everyone ignores those who know and tell who these people are, and decide to elevate their so-called "geniuses" to godlike status, and make us look like we're crazy for constantly warning the public.

Then they wonder "how did we get here"

The Tesla Roadster came onto the market in 2008 and was truly something unprecedented. After selling fewer than 2500 units, the Roadster was discontinued in 2012. And from 2012 until today, there have always been better alternatives to Tesla. One look at Tesla's vehicles would have been enough to show that Musk is anything but a genius. A look at the factories shows that Musk is not a good person (anti-union, disregard for labour protection). I have long said that Musk is not a genius and that Teslas are not good cars. I was never stopped from saying that. But nobody listened to me either. I was slightly stunned to see that there were more and more Teslas, while I expected the company to collapse soon. Tesla isn't the only one of Musk's companies worthy of criticism. Starlink is probably the worst. Starlink gives him huge influence and at the same time jeopardises the whole of space travel and astronomy.
