And that is dangerous. They look intelligent because they still have some access in the system, and will regularly complain about the latest misery inflicted by TrumpCo.

But they can't reject their own corruption which Trump is super-sizing, they can't tell you why a "fascist" would want to cut off medicines, energy and fertilizer to the world's liberal democracies (they call these disconnected examples of "incompetence").

@phil_stevens Um, the Trumpist objective (or M.O.) is to control the energy markets, raising prices for their oil exporting friends (incl. Putin) and making life difficult for liberal democracies that import energy (incl. the EU).

The US regime's announcements are just to placate the media and get people wondering there might be some actual good in all of this mayhem.

@phil_stevens Mark my words: Trump will offer bailouts/price breaks to countries who replace their leaders with authoritarians.... Hungary's Magyar included. He's already done this with Argentina and gotten results.

@phil_stevens A nationalist-imperialist like Trump who has normalized trade war tactics can – no doubt, some weeks before the midterm elections – offer to step in and force the reduction of energy exports, thus lowering US domestic prices. He can "save" us from the problem he created.

They are playing a risky game, and it could be a massive loss for them. But the US and Russia will not feel the worst of the price shocks (by a large margin).... those shocks are directed elsewhere.

The liberal/progressive narrative about the Trump regime being gibbering idiots is its own kind of idiocy. Trump may have lost the ability to communicate clearly but that fact is now serving as a cover for policies he and his advisors have been planning for decades.
