@freemo Good joke. How do you imagine getting a knife out, then get out of car, get far enough to slash your tire when cops are afraid of you to death (usually yours) and ready to shoot you if you blink wrongly?
@freemo very well then, I hope one day you will find the mood and enough free time to make a blog post about your technique, altering mind state is my new passion (unfortunately, here in Canada I can't legally rely on substances)
@freemo first of, let me thank you for giving my stupid take your very valuable time, I really appreciate it!
I think I, as always, missed main point of your post
> My concern is that even with a diagnosis I’d still remain convinced 95% of people diagnosed do not have it (and this comes from a lot of discussion with experts).
it reminds me a book? or a story? when guy was reading a medical book and found like hundred different illness and disorders in himself
people (especially youth) are very impressionable, so I like your choice to call it "designer disorder", since is 1) everywhere on social media, 2) fancy and 3) gives you social (victim) points, so a lot of so called people on the spectrum are just lucking social skills (yeah, irony, I think I have more of this than actual problem)
to add something valuable to conversation, I remember recently I was listening to a podcast (Peter Atia? Uberman? or Shane from Knowledge Project? one of these guys) when host had a guest, forgot his main specialization, but he told a story how he had a stroke, and after he found out, that we basically live in illusion, we as humans have multiple systems for reality check, but his stroke disrupted seamless work of them all as one "mind", that was unexpected perspective.. dunno.. to how fragile we are and how our brain does a lot of work to interpret reality
now I regret that I picked math instead of neuroscience, brains are much more interesting
@freemo for me it was just the answer to a question "wth is wrong with me". now I know (but not diagnosed, just very strong suspicion) and realized that some my habits are self-found way of coping, knowing the fact just stimulates me a bit to learn better way to be useful member or society, this is basically it. Over-glorifying mental issues lately is... disturbing, but also letting other people know that some problems are not very visible, be kind is good. If being asked, all I say to people "I might have autism, that's why I seem strange", shrug, and change topic
but people, who make whole identity out of some mental disorder or some very narrow interest - this is getting old
@freemo I'm kind of agree with @marathon about being not so smart. Let me explain a bit
I ran from Russia, because my love to Putler was so overwhelming, I basically couldn't function
You, sir, need to switch from cannabis to Russian propaganda to be as smart as this marathon guy
Economy in Russia so great, they are selling eggs by.. singles now. Part of population (let me guestimate.. I'd say around 25-30%) can't even afford 10 or 30 pack, especially seniors, and garbage dumpster diving granny is nothing special these days
There is no freedom of speech, unless you are kissing Putin's ass or crapping on anything non-Russian, internet is becoming same bolted down version as in China - there are cases when people are getting jail time for likes. For example, Sasha Skochilenko got 7 years for a couple stickers "stop war"
People love Putin as much, as North Korean peasants love Kim (or whoever), it's easy to love someone when alternative is knees broken with a mallet or colon ruptured with a broom
@freemo well, of course, something something exception. Pretty sure they worked days and nights to prove their worth, and on the other hand all candidates who did nothing but questionable politics, like if 300+mil population of US couldn't find better people
Oh, meritocracy is the word to shortly summarize :blobcatadorablepink:
@freemo I just love slowly pouring oil into fire, when I see MAGAist, I try to find good deeds of Biden, when person is Bidenaught, I try to find what Trump did good. Maybe not really ethical, but hey, this is Internet
Mostly because politic doesn't make sense for me.. like, for any CEO position any company gonna require couple universities, 100 years of experience, whole hand in other words, yet for President position all need is to be septuagenarian at least, and yell the loudest on TV? no resource management degree, no even economical college, no neither math nor statistics, no such idiocy. I feel like ~30-50 years ago a glitch happened in our simulation, the last chance we have is as humanity plea to Gods, I mean Admins*, they should read logs anyway, to save every sentient being in this universe on disk and restart simulation. I think it was buffer overflow and now total humanity IQ stays constant yet population grows exponentially
* there is a theory that this simulation super-duper-computer actually runs by Mormons
@freemo ok, let's agree on the fact that police needs real reform and have another police, so they could investigate each other's misbehavior and not covering every situation like "we investigated ourselves and concluded that we did nothing wrong". Police should be held to way higher standards than regular people, and corruption/unlawful behavior should result at least triple punishment
> the police continued to choke the man for over nine minutes
but I disagree with this, that not what happened, nobody chocked Floyd, quite the opposite, there is footage that they tried to help him before even ambulance arrived, the famous viral video when cop was kneeling on the neck - it's just wrong perspective of this particular video, body cam showed that cop was holding his knee on shoulder blade which is not a chocking hazard, but they decided to build wrong narrative and didn't bring this footage
evidence shows that cops did everything according instructions and regulations
@freemo oh, I see now that part I missed, thank you for pointing - let me assure that wasn't intentional, just English not being first language sometimes plays jokes with me
If not his death, what else could provoke outrage? If he miraculously survived, it would be yet another case of police work - called for crime in progress, arrest, jail, nothing to call home about
Am I understanding you correctly this time, that police doing their job with techniques they were trained in case of resisting criminal [which also approved by w/e authority approves methods and protocols], in any case deserve riots or something unless they .. what exactly? Ambulance was called in less than a minute when national hero George Floyd showed problems with breathing, and yet he kept resisting and needed a restrain. What to do in this case? Let criminal go and hurt someone else?
> Because a cop strangled him to death and remain choking his lifeless body
I said
> That's not what happened
and somehow I am flapping my gums (by typing, I guess?) and not even trying to understand what you said? Some police practices are shit, but what you gonna do if some criminal under influence resists arrest? let him go and let him kill someone else?
I mean, I hate corrupted police and don't wanna deal with all of them at all if I have chance (and yes, don't talk to police [w/out lawyer], that is being told even by former police officers), but blame them for every fault of every OD'd criminal - that's too much. I hope you will at least consider skimming over almost 2 hour documentary and probably change mind if documentary is compelling enough to do so
@freemo how exactly a criminal drug user (who died from OD) deserved outrage? if only by showing how corrupt judge and whole system are, that caved in to "mostly peaceful" activists, who demanded so called justice for a cop simply doing his job, but outrage was targeted toward police and that one police man with wrong skin color
