The Little One is sad because their playdate has been cancelled because their little friend is sick. Again.

This is the third time this happens in just under three months. Apparently Not-Covid again.

But everything is fine because kids don't catch it and it's mild in kids and yadda yadda huh?

The playdate that was postponed until tomorrow has now been postponed indefinitely because although Little Friend has recovered, it's their mum that's 'come down with something' now.
They asked if we should meet anyway, we said "have you tested for covid?", and they said of course not, no need because it certainly is Not-Covid.

So, playdate postponed until everyone is healthy. A tough bar to clear lately. :/

Little One misses their friend, and video calls aren't cutting it.

Please don't say "After the pandemic" or "Post-covid world".

Don't use phrasing that reinforces the idea that the pandemic is over and it's all in the past. It is not.

Say "post lockdowns", "After the initial response", "since public health measures expired", "during the global emergency phase", "while schools were closed".

Use accurate terms for what you mean, don't erase this gigantic ongoing issue.

Don't gaslight more.

Remember that language is powerful and #CovidIsNotOver

If you ask me, I'd say what we most urgently need to do is *less*.

Less of almost everything.

Less work, less consumerism, less travel, less buying, less waste, less stress, less pollution.

'Slowing down is the Revolution.'

It wouldn't be a solution for everything but it would be a good start.

And then #degrowth and #ecosocialism or something, I don't know. There's a lot of smarter people than me thinking about that.

Perhaps that's why no one is asking me. 🤷

Quick reminder that we are not actually in a "Cost of Living Crisis".

It's a Extreme Inequality and Record Untaxed Profits Crisis.

While we struggle for the basics, banks, energy companies, supermarkets and the oligarchs are posting record breaking profits.

It would be pretty straight forward to even it out. If they wanted to.

Don't buy the framing that makes it seem like nothing can be done, other than suffering through it.

@arinbasu1 @goatsarah and car share schemes! They're actually a very elegant solution to the gaps unfilled by other modes of transport.

If I'm allowed a tiny brag, my family and I have managed 12 years since the last time I owned a car thanks to bikes, semi functioning public transport and car shares for the city. Car rentals for longer trips out of town.
