Kim dreaded his homecoming. Yes, he had fought bravely against the Oceanic forces. His small troop had held their hill. He was a bonafide hero.

But it was that spotlight that he disliked, that added to his discomfort. He liked being unassuming, being a wallflower. His was the way of the chorus, not the prima donna.

And then there was the way his injuries were treated. Who even replaces lost legs with an entire big-ass steam locomotive?!

genders for nouns, for sure! most indian languages (and all oher languages that birthed from the loins of the PIE language) insist on specifying genders to inanimate objects. why? for what reason?

take DE: Der Rock (the skirt) is masculine and Die Hose (the trouser) is feminine. 🤷

and while we are at it, let's abolish capital letters altogether. (again, DE: why capitalise *every* noun?!)

Thomas trundled onwards. He liked this patrol route, it had some of the last surviving trees amid grey steel. He liked them better than the receding shorelines on Route C.

It almost distracted him from the questions that ate away at him lately: What was his purpose? Why do this rut day in and day out? Surely there must be something greater to which he could aspire?

He resolved to, on his return, ask his other tank brethren what they thought.
