@freemo @gwynnion it’s not quite. I scanned too quick and got confused by time units. It’s more like 3-4x and I am basing it on the revenue generated not the cost of goods. I’m was also talking about all the proposed tariffs not just china’s. So from the article I linked Biden got 36b a year mostly from existing trump tariffs. Trump’s proposal gets 120b a year revenue. Both numbers ignore secondary effects like reduction in trade, jobs, and gdp.

@freemo @gwynnion ok you got me. Still the proposed tariffs are another order of magnitude. https://taxfoundation.org/research/all/federal/tariffs/

Tariff Tracker: Tracking the Economic Impact of Tariffs
      from Kyle Hulehan
The Trump administration imposed nearly $80 billion worth of new taxes on Americans by levying tariffs on thousands of products in 2018 and 2019, amounting to one of the largest tax increases in decades. The Biden administration has kept most of the Trump administration tariffs in place

@freemo @gwynnion not really “major” yet that’s only 5% of the trade. We should not even be doing those, was very disappointed that Biden didn’t reverse trump’s tariffs.

@freemo They break ties and count electoral votes and other such minor duties. Other than that, not sure why people think VPs have any power to do anything. After a few decades it's hard to remember their names unless they end up as president one way or another.

@freemo That stack thing sounds like a pipeline, stack means something else to me. I'd need a picture for the 2nd, can't visualize it from the description.

@pkal Ok, it’s not showing here, but it would explain why I see the post in my home feed. Maybe a bug in my instance is not showing all of the post. I think if it was a federation problem I wouldn’t have seen it at all?

@pkal Interesting, I didn’t know that was a thing. That would explain the behavior. Not sure I like invisible tags though, but that’s more on the receiver side to show them in some form.

@freemo There's "would be better" but more importantly "able to be elected", as most of them don't seem to be on track to be on the ballot in most states.

Every single one though? Well I have to admit Vermin Supreme has a certain je ne sais quoi, but I'm pretty sure he'd make a terrible president. I don't even know what I would do with a pony.

@freemo Everyone can see he's in decline, but there isn't really an alternative for them at this point, so denial is a coping strategy. I'll don't deny his decline, but don't see any alternative but to vote for him, and hope succession goes smoothly when necessary. Yeah, yeah 3rd party candidates, do any of these seem viable to you? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third_party_and_independent_candidates_for_the_2024_United_States_presidential_election

Third party and independent candidates for the 2024 United States presidential election
This article lists third party and independent candidates, also jointly known as minor candidates, associated with the 2024 United States presidential election. Early polling for third party candidates in this election cycle has suggested the highest level of support for such a candidate since Ross Perot in 1992 and 1996. Polls were especially high for Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who withdrew his candidacy in the Democratic Party primaries in October 2023 to run as an independent. General election candidates Candidates with ballot access The following general election candidates currently have ballot access to fewer than 270 electoral votes, the minimum number required to attain the presidency. Ballot access deadlines vary from state to state. Candidates without ballot access Parties and candidates in this section have not attained ballot lines in any states. Socialist Party USA: Bill Stodden (nonprofit executive, presidential nominee); Stephanie Cholensky...

Arguments about the "realness" of the wealth aside, most of the envy in the original thread is from (IMO) a zero-sum mentality, in other words the stock wealth is at the expense of the rest of us, like there's only so much pie and these guys are taking my piece too. I always find that idea amusing and wrong.

@freemo Interesting demon BTW. Maybe he should be the patron demon of programmers or STEM: from the interwebs:

"He is a demon of the First Hierarchy who seduces by means of laziness, vanity, and rationalized philosophies. To others, he teacheth mathematical sciences and handicrafts. He doth make men invisible, lead them to hidden treasures, and give them power over serpents. He teacheth secrets. Every question formulated to him sees truthful answer." 😆

@freemo Except for the movie writers. The center is the seal of Astaroth, I had fun looking that up. The outer part is apparently gibberish used in the Bedknobs movie. Did they call the seal by name in the movie? (I have not seen it)
