Israel is described as a functioning democracy. Which means its policies are backed by voters.

If we are punishing nations because their governments commit human-rights violations, why are we harsher on populations that didn’t choose their leaders (Russia/Belarus), and softer toward one whose electorate actively supports its government’s actions?

This isn’t about geography. It’s about power. Israel benefits from strong diplomatic and commercial alliances with the US, UK, Germany, and others. These states shield it from accountability in global institutions — including sport.

Collective punishment of ordinary Russians and Belarusians is justified with moral rhetoric — yet when those same principles are applied to Israel, suddenly they’re called “political interference” or even “antisemitism.”

The backlash is growing though. Spain, Ireland, the Netherlands and Slovenia have already confirmed boycotts of Eurovision. More are likely to follow. European nations taking a stand — while Europe’s own institutions won’t and are even prepared to lose genuine European nations in favour of a Middle Eastern colonial state.

Critics say:
– Sport and culture banned Russia for clear violations of international norms.
– Israel has openly done the same (and worse) to Palestinians.
– But only Russia and Belarus pay the price.

– European song contests

It’s politically positioned as “one of us,” while Russia and Belarus are the “other” Europe.

This story is so fucked up.
The Israeli military regime lawyer who was the whistleblower on the horrific abuse of a Palestinian hostage kidnapped by the IDF has been arrested. They get found out on their lies, human rights abuses, and psychological, physical, and sexual assaults and decide the best thing to do is to dissappear the one who publicised their crimes.

Their entire system stinks.

@dyckron Courtesy of China, we have an opportunity that would allow existing infrastructure to be maintained with little or no loss of jobs and closure of facilities. The fuel station is no longer just for fuel anymore. It’s replaced the corner shop and closure, especially in rural areas, would be detrimental. @dyckron it mentioned it but there are calls within the EU to keeps sales going but not extending the deadline. My own country (Ireland) is completely in the dark as to what's next. There's not even a nailed down policy on classic/vintage vehicles because every member state has separate definitions. It's a complete mess everywhere.

@bodhipaksa maybe stop using it then? If it was any other services provider, they wouldn't get the business but the success of these platforms is that they make us think we won't survive without them when we clearly do. There are better alternatives but so many of us think otherwise.
