     @bodhipaksa @marzipanista I just realized I don't know any phone mumbers except my.mother and sister, the former I'm no contact with (memorised then back in the 2000s), and the later is on the exaxt opposite end of the country. It might be a good idea to change that, memorize my bestie's number at least.

     @marzipanista Thank you. Yes, it is horrible. I was summoned to an immigration office a couple of months ago (I'm a resident alien) and I spent the hour-long drive there memorizing my partner's phone number (a sign of the times that we don't know these things) in case I ended up being disappeared into a detention camp. Fortunately I just heard the other day that they're issuing a new green card. So I'm OK for now, but if they get desperate to fulfill their quotas I might be for the chop.

     @Wen Please don’t joke about that! You probably don’t know, but my daughter is black and an immigrant. I live in terror that she will have her naturalization revoked and be deported. I’m in the middle of applying for a UK passport for her for that reason, and also just in case the country becomes unsafe for her. I’ll be doing the same for my son, but I can only do one application at a time.

     @bodhipaksa @TheComfortableSpotPodcast I had that issue with Facebook and Google messenger/hangouts. I left with the line "If keeping in touch with me is as important to you as my privcy and safety is to me, you'll reach me [here]".

     ...many did not. Oh well. I have better friends now.

     @TheComfortableSpotPodcast She’s a teenager, at a time (college freshman move-in day yesterday) when connecting with friends is vitally important. All her friends are on it. It’s not an easy thing even for adults to walk away from these things.

     @bodhipaksa maybe stop using it then? If it was any other services provider, they wouldn't get the business but the success of these platforms is that they make us think we won't survive without them when we clearly do. There are better alternatives but so many of us think otherwise.

     @hellomiakoda @marzipanista When I got summoned to an immigration appointment I spent the entire hour’s drive memorizing my partner’s number in case they were going to disappear me into a camp. The appointment went without incident, fortunately. I knew her number then, but lack of practice means I’ve forgotten most of it again.
