@toiletpaper @freemo I noticed that most cops are way better at staying calm than I am. So, thankfully, I live in a wealthy neighborhood that doesn't require gates or guns.

Martin Jambon ๐๐๐ (mjambon@qoto.org)'s status on Saturday, 06-Jan-2024 05:57:18 JST Martin Jambon ๐๐๐ @freemo repressed memories? Isn't that supposed to be bad because they'll cause weird behavior later? (of course, if they are truly erased rather than masked, it shouldn't be a problem)

I would love to use it if someone could tell me how we can have multiple people edit and view the same document at the same time in the middle of a meeting.

Martin Jambon ๐๐๐ (mjambon@qoto.org)'s status on Friday, 17-Nov-2023 11:53:38 JST Martin Jambon ๐๐๐ @freemo I'm not sure what you mean exactly by "cop out". Clearly, I don't want a hard rule to decide whether someone lives or die. Such a situation seems important and rare enough that it deserves serious pondering when it happens.

Martin Jambon ๐๐๐ (mjambon@qoto.org)'s status on Friday, 17-Nov-2023 11:32:02 JST Martin Jambon ๐๐๐ @freemo all decisions are based on how we imagine the future. My previous message was about confronting a past prediction with an actual outcome: "I made you live even though you didn't want it because I thought you'd feel better later. How are you now?"

Martin Jambon ๐๐๐ (mjambon@qoto.org)'s status on Friday, 17-Nov-2023 11:17:56 JST Martin Jambon ๐๐๐ @freemo like most people, I'd probably spend more effort to rescue the people I know and love than strangers. It's unfortunate for those who are the most isolated.

Martin Jambon ๐๐๐ (mjambon@qoto.org)'s status on Friday, 17-Nov-2023 11:14:52 JST Martin Jambon ๐๐๐ @freemo I think it should be up to you to decide when faced with such a situation, not the law. Personally, I don't have firm rules for deciding this, possibly because I was never faced with such a situation.

Martin Jambon ๐๐๐ (mjambon@qoto.org)'s status on Friday, 17-Nov-2023 11:07:26 JST Martin Jambon ๐๐๐ @freemo it's the idea that people don't always know what's best for them as in "I don't need no education". This has been massively abused by various autocratic regimes and nanny states but it's not a reason to let people kill themselves just because they're going through a phase.

Martin Jambon ๐๐๐ (mjambon@qoto.org)'s status on Thursday, 09-Nov-2023 11:58:06 JST Martin Jambon ๐๐๐ @freemo I could list other reasons:
- because it's a net loss for society (it's destructive: there's very little gain for the murderer compared to the cost of making another human being)
- because it makes all of us feel threatened (and we care about not dying)
- cannibalism is frowned upon so what's the point of murder?
