Its a lot of fun that I am starting a company from scratch and get to hire everyone and make all the rules... For example I am making sure that every single person I hire is comfortable with using linux and open-source tools, and writing documents in latex and markdown. Even management. It is pretty sweet!

@freemo I can't find fault in weeding out the microsoft serfs or the macos cultists, but how tf can you start a company every year? Do you have so much money lying around you don't actually need a company to live well?

@admitsWrongIfProven I dont start one every year, but most people I know when they start a company im the first one they offer shares to to join, or investors are usually pretty eager to invest in anything i do due to my trackrecord of success.

I mean i literally invented the fastest and most accurate COVID detection method in the world just last year and it only took me 3 months (the company that made me a partner to do it had tried and failed for 3+ years with a full team)

@freemo It triggered a memory of the big pile, like with Uber. If the pile is big enough, there's gotta be a pony under there somewhere.

@freemo The LaTeX requirement will definitely thin the herd! (I really like LaTeX right up until I need to collaborate with someone that doesn’t use it)

@Gbudd So the latext requirement is a bit looser than that.. its something like this:

“Must be expiernced in either markdown or latext and willing to learn latex and use it on a daily basis”

So we are ok if they just know markdown but if thats the case they still need to be eager learners.

And I agree most latex noobs are very unpleasant to work with. I myself am not a latext expert. I mostly know how to get around well enough for a little above a basic level. Most of the fancy stuff I’ve done has just been integrating stuff from online snippets or libraries.

@freemo @Gbudd I wonder what you want to use LaTeX for in your business. I would love to use it if someone could tell me how we can have multiple people edit and view the same document at the same time in the middle of a meeting.

      @mjambon

      So ill answer both.

I wonder what you want to use LaTeX for in your business.

We are a company that has a product thatis very math heavy (or at least will once we release it). So there is a need for a lot of math. Sadly that means latex if you also want to be text-based (as in can use git on it to diff) and open-source, which are also important things.

I would love to use it if someone could tell me how we can have multiple people edit and view the same document at the same time in the middle of a

      Oh thats easy: https://www.overleaf.com/

Its basically google docs like setup but specifically for latex.

I gave a link to an online tool that does it well. I usually work on large teams at the same time in latex.

@mjambon @freemo I don’t find it’s usable for that use case (though there’s probably someone who’s written something to do it), I really like that it works well with source control and that I can write code to programmatically generate pieces of the document. But yeah for real-time collaboration I’d probably use something else.

Dear Dr. Freemo: I hope that you will exercise patients with your new employees, you often seem to be angry at people on Mastodon, I believe that you are a highly intelligent person who will succeed at what you set out to do. I am not lecturing you on how to run a successful business, I am stating that you have apologized to the whole Mastodon Fediverse for your behavior on Mastodon. I just want you to reflect on your past apology to the whole Mastodon Fediverse, you at times lack adequate and sufficient patience with people on Mastodon Fediverse.

Although I have no right to tell you this, I am concerned that you will at times go overboard and be to demanding of your employees. So may be I am out of line for saying this, but I feel that it is worth saying, obviously we all toot (post) for replies, I believe that you are intensely psychologically driven to be a self motivated person. Be careful not to over compensate and destroy the morale of your employees. I am lecturing you on becoming more socially aware concerning management employee interactions. Which I am deeply concerned that you will push to hard and alienate your future prospective responsible managerial employees and subordinate employees.

Just be mindful that each person has value, yes they have feelings too and you must not let your own intense psychological drive to succeed be the proximate cause of your failure to recognize the importance of each and every employee's positive contribution to your new entrepreneurial endeavor.

Sincerely, Monica Andrews, Editor-in-chief, #FreePeoplesFreePress News
