3. Time off. Many times I never took a single day off in a calendar year. Many times I was on call on Christmas, New Year’s.

I feel frustrated right now, #mastodon if there is any help?

This account is having issues due to an invalid email I cannot change. The advice I have been given is to migrate the account, but because I can’t log in on desktop, I can’t do that. None of the changes you need to make can be accessed on the iOS application and I cannot seem to get an admins attention.

Any ideas? I’ve tried many things!

I have to migrate this account to another server because of login errors and other technical issues.

I feel like Silicon Valley broke the promise it made to me. I started working at the help desk in high school bc I liked #computers and wanted to help people. I left college early to join an incubator program.

As I rose higher in #tech it was no longer about helping people, with the company actively making decisions to hurt users.

Are there still tech #jobs and companies focused on helping people & not fighting against huge headwinds?

Knowing and not knowing.
I think they do know how dangerous the world is for women. Ex:

Me and my brothers (12, 15) were about to play Xbox live, and me and my younger brother had never played before.

As we enter the Xbox live lobby, my older bro turns my mic off and he: “you can’t be on the mic.”

This shows me he does know a bit about the abuse that women face, but he would never admit that. Strange.

An interesting thing about looking for a job in the #eu

They ask what your old salary was immediately and they ask you what you wanna make immediately.

This is illegal in California because studies found out that if people were discriminated against in their first job, the salary discrepancy followed them forever.

In Silicon Valley they use an algorithm to determine what you are paid and it’s extremely complex. However, a lot of that data is built on biased datasets. #tech #technology #pay

What’s interesting about being a woman is that:

I feel I cannot win.

If I dress like a developer which I’ve worn #linux hoodies to conferences that’s shamed, but if I dress feminine, it is sexualized.

I’m a #cybersecurity engineer and I want to leave the US for a life in EMEA. Has anyone else done this; and how did you do it?

Preferably #germany or #switzerland or a German speaking country as I have A2 level German and English and technical skills.
