    I need some #help #mastodon !

I’m a #cybersecurity engineer and I want to leave the US for a life in EMEA. Has anyone else done this; and how did you do it?

Preferably #germany or #switzerland or a German speaking country as I have A2 level German and English and technical skills.

    Danke

@reginagrogan Do you have a college degree? Then just getting an IT job in Germany is sufficient. It has to pay a certain minimum (around 50k€ the last time I checked) and while tech wages are significantly lower in Germany that’s still pretty much entry level. The employer has to be willing to do some paperwork I think.

@burne @reginagrogan Oh yes, for sure. Just don’t be surprised that you won’t be making 100k€/$ probably, while in the US that’s an entirely normal pay in IT.

Yes, they are, but also: cost of living is much, much lower in Germany, so a lower income doesn't mean a lower standard of living. You can rent a 1 bed apartment for ~ €750 in most large cities, not ~$1800 like in America. That is 12k you won't spend every year. Health insurance is another 12k you won't spend. Healthy food is cheaper than fast food, another 20k you won't spend. Suddenly 50k less isn't bad

@reginagrogan Oh god. In my small town I pay 1200€ for 100 square meters, in a city it would probably be 2000€.

So you don’t have to die. Even Munich isn’t that expensive (most expensive city in Germany).

@burne @GreenSkyOverMe I pay almost $4000 a month here in Silicon Valley. Tough. I would die for cheaper living
