It is now illegal to transmit personal information of EU citizens to cloud infrastructure in the #US as they won't be protected by the #GDPR.

Many European service providers will have to move quickly to avoid fines, but eventually #EU data will be held in the EU, benefiting companies in Europe, and supporting #DigitalSovereignty.

That means AWS, Azure, Google and iCloud can lose a sizeable chunk of their customer base if no moves are made. I am all for it.

A Finnish study on the applicability of psychedelics in the treatment of alcoholism and other types of substance addictions is stuck, because the company owning the source data went into bankruptcy. It is now unclear who owns the data.

This is a clear example of a situation where a data management plan is required in research.

The #Volksdaten debacle got me wondering about the usefulness of #mobility data locked away on servers of car companies etc.

Such data is crucial for examining dynamic populations and transport to identify #spatiotemporal patterns, and should be openly accessible in an anonymized form for research.

This is making the rounds on Finnish social media.

A large association for Finnish construction companies, #Rakennusteollisuus, decided that they needed an English version of their website but apparently they didn't want to pay an actual #translator so just used some free #LLM with hilarious results.

They've fixed it now, but for a short while there was some comedy gold to be found.

P.s. I didn't find these, I've no idea who did.

It is a kind of feeling to deploy a #HUGO site on GitHub Pages while relying on instructions from Hugo, a theme provider, and Medium. On top of this, following the Desolation of Smaug from TV with one eye, and after a full-blast day of parenting.

One's head can be spinning from less.

But after an hour and a half of troubleshooting why my GitHub Action failed, I have now finally updated my personal website. Hooray!

Apparently #chocolate will become a rarity within a decade or two as droughts and climate change are wreaking havoc on farmers' yields.

Finnish chocolate brand #Fazer is apparently exploring alternatives and the #Finnish delicacy #mämmi can be prepared so that it is very close in taste to actual chocolate.

I am intrigued, excited even, but also a bit taken aback that alternatives were not explored sooner.
