17yo is having to deal with some crap because some of her college's staff are handling a sensitive situation very clumsily.* Wish I could intervene. But it's that stage of parenting when all you can do is advise and then watch while they try and navigate things for themselves. Difficult.
* sorry for being cryptic but don't want to give identifiable details
@JetlagJen I tend to find published resources aren't much use because they don't usually fit the specifics of a situation so they create confusion.
I used to draw little stick figure cartoons or sort of flowcharts to try and cover what might happen in a situation and what the backup plan could be if it doesn't go to plan. Or try and do a practice run beforehand - so in this situation, send him in a taxi to a friend's house or something?)
Humphrey Lyttelton, the #jazz musician and presenter of #ISIHAC, who died in 2008, used to have a nice personal website at humphreylyttelton.com. Something weird has happened to it recently: some of the old homepage text is still there, but merged with nonsense about scratch cards & an 'iGaming entrepreneur'. AI-generated spam presumably?
Two years ago today I tested positive for Covid. I was fit and healthy and expected to be back to normal in a few days. It's been two years and I still can't walk 50 yards.
The only people who think #LongCovid is no big deal are those who don’t know enough about it.
Washing out Wagamama takeaway containers to put them in the recycling box, and thinking about the probability that they will not be recycled at all and will end up in a landfill on some other continent...
I'd pay a deposit on them that could be refundable when you take the containers back, or credited against your next order. Or get a kid on a cargo bike coming round to collect them once there are enough in the area. Shouldn't be beyond the wit of app designers.
@aral 100% real! The question above was 'Do you think the history curriculum needs updating?' or something along those lines. Fairly sure it was in The Times.
Used to edit books, now disabled by Long Covid. (I can no longer work, drive, read a book, leave the house unassisted, walk any distance without a rollator, or play with my kids. Governments have decided it's not worth trying to protect anyone from this life-wrecking disease. I think we could do better than that.) She/her. SW England.
