:MokouWha: what's with #forkey related developers doing shit in the #fediverse that can only be dreamed by the absolutely deranged :suwawawa:
first we have someone trying to make migrating a #mastodon instance to #sharkey possible, now we have #firefish to some #tumblr lookalike called #wafrn :TenshMelt:
pls keep coming up with this shit, the fedi needs more of this :RumiaPray:
#Csharp rewrite and ditching the #Misskey API... It feels to me like they took one of the factors that led to #Firefish's downfall and said "hey we can do worse than that!" :SanaeConfuzzled:
Though I think I remember reading somewhere that he has an Asian wife. Might be wildly wrong on that though, so take that with a huge grain of asin :koakuma_giggle:
@Methylcobalamin@mastodon.social And it is still useless if not counterintuitive for the end user anyway because it is too trivial to circumvent (even unintentionally!) the security theatre that #Mastodon feature request is proposing. Which means to truly enforce the user's "request" (it's turned on by default btw which makes it even worse) to not quote their post, the instance's admin will have to defederate all instances that don't support Mastodon's "privacy setting" for #quoteposts. Which then means less useful timelines and broken social connections for the end users because congratulations, you just placed a #fediblock on the rest of the vast #fediverse using software like #Misskey, #Pleroma, #Akkoma, #Sharkey, #Hubzilla, #Friendica, etc.!
So how is this helpful for the end user, again? :sagume_think:
We do not need another case of #Mastodon strong-arming other developers of the #fediverse into being compatible with their implementation just because they're the most-used software out there.
If this "privacy setting" for #quoteposts is implemented with it enabled by default, the result will be disastrous. :reisensweat: Since there is no other way to enforce this setting other than #defederation, we are going to see Mastodon servers strong-arming those software developers who are "non-compliant" by threatening a #fediblock. :reisensweat: Developers of the -key and -oma families will suddenly have to scramble to make their implementation of #quotetweets compatible with Mastodon's "privacy-friendly" implementation. :satsuki_sadge: This way of "extending" the fediverse is not acceptable, and everyone who has opposed #Facebook joining the fediverse due to #EmbraceExtendExtinguish should also oppose this issue which just eventually leads to the same result.
If you are a Touhou fan (especially PC-98!) in 0w0.is looking for other instances and want an account here, you can ask me for an invite code either by private mention me or emailing the address listed at https://chaotic.ninja/register/ :kyoukowave:
Though I do have to warn though, that Makai has a relatively looser moderation than 0w0.is does. So if that's a dealbreaker for you, that's perfectly fine with me! In that case I'd probably recommend gensokyo.social (vanilla Mastodon), udongein.xyz (uses pleroma!), wetdry.world (Mastodon but supports custom reactions!), and grimgreenfo.rest (Sharkey)
You know a #Touhou "fan" is faking being a fan when they assume that the reason a majority of Touhou characters are flat-chested is because they're children and not because ZUN just sucks at drawing women in the games :koakuma_giggle:
@Zerglingman@freespeechextremist.com Maybe they want to play their music into a hardware music player separate from their computer. There are plenty of old players that don't support FLAC but will happily play MP3s and WAVs
@lina@eientei.org Yeah pretty much. There's no reason to get the WAV version at all unless you really don't have a player that supports FLAC or ALAC. But even then you could just decode that losslessly compressed audio into wav and play that into your player... :sagume_think:
@lina@eientei.org (Btw 1.4 Mbits per sec only applies for the standard CD audio which is stereo 16-bit 44.1khz. May be even larger if it's another encoding like DVD Audio which may have more than two channels and a higher sample rate and bit encoding like 24-bit)
@Zerglingman@freespeechextremist.com Lossless exist for those people who still burn to CD so if you're into archival then yeah you can justify it. :akyuu_headphones: Otherwise if you're just a casual listener, any of the lossy formats will do. :cirno_fumo_yes:
