The problem is that it is everywhere. There is no country that seems to care about their citizens' health. And everywhere people simply accept that their health is being damaged. For what? Parties. Holidays. Festivals.
I am also wondering what sets apart people who are able to resist this drive towards accepting all the deaths and disability. I thought it might be neurodivergence. It clearly is not the group who care about other things such as the climate or volunteering work.
Yes, I see a lot of people who do not seem to mind killing others with their risky behaviour, because they had "underlying conditions" anyway. Obviously they themselves have perfect genes and exercise enough to never be in that category.
Maybe things are different in the US (although I see images of people living in their cars or in tents), but in Europe more and more people struggle to pay their bills and rely on food banks.
I think there are quite a few people who can afford less than they are used to.
This raises questions of what are basic needs. Food, housing and heating obviously are.
But is going on a holiday every year a basic need? Being able to smoke? Have a subscription to Netflix? Presents around Christmas? Dining in restaurants? Have a pet?
Especially the holiday causes a lot of discussion where I am. I think you can argue that you need time off work every year, but travel?
