A really good piece on 404 Media that talks about Bluesky's growth, but also how Mastodon (and other parts of the Fediverse) had a bunch of momentum taken away by Threads.
As someone who uses both Mastodon and Bluesky on the regular, I find myself in full agreement.
@mriesp@Takiro Thank you! So it just looks like we're waiting for the ability for federation to roll out, but it's going to work quite differently from instances on the Fediverse.
For tonight's Quarantine Control on @damagecontrolblog, I wrote about SteamWorld Heist, a damned good tactical RPG. @Dio_Senrab wrote about The Penguin on (HBO) Max, and CWTyger wrote about how he's practicing self care. Check us out!
I found that Redact wasn't working well for me in regards to wiping my Twitter account. I would have happily paid for a month to get the job done, but the service only allows users to buy a year at a time. $85 was a bit much for me. So I paid for a month of TweetDelete. It's going to take a minute.
I've had my account for over 13 years, and I have over 39,000 tweets. I had a lot to say.
The account will remained wiped and locked so a bot can't take my handle.
@Takiro True. But considering how many friends just didn't get Mastodon and decentralization no matter how many times I (or others ) explained it, I GET the appeal of Bluesky.
I love having accounts on both, as the vibes are both similar and different. I wish more people were on Mastodon/Fedi, but until they become easier to use most people will go with the centralized option.
I found to stay here you have to really work at it, and that's fine.
@mekkaokereke I'm seeing more and more conversations here replace the evils of Twitter with the evils of Bluesky and I'm just... I don't know. Didn't people here want everyone off Twitter because it's run by a Nazi? Does it really matter if they come here, go there, or run between both?
Didn't people bitch about the last huge migration from Twitter?
As much as I love Mastodon and the Fediverse, folks can become really insufferable at times. It's then that I just start to tune them out.
@Takiro I dunno. Could be a work in progress then. Like they just rolled out stuff like pinned posts. But honestly, I have an account here, and there both are updated at the same time (without a bridge). If it sucks there someday, then I'll still have here.
@Takiro It technically is, but it's way more complicated than Mastodon/the greater Fediverse. I saw the steps to registering a domain and my eyes glazed over. It is based on the AT Protocol which is competing with ActivityPub.
It's basically if everyone just joined Mastodon.social and called it a day.
Matt Gaetz, huh? Considering so many people were happy to vote for the convicted felon (I saw people with those signs in their car at work), I'm not surprised the new Attorney General pick is sex trafficker.
The inmates are now running the asylum. And we are all so much worse off for it.
Okay, it seems like the big .social instance is acting funky. Sometimes there are no notifications, other times they show up, and on Pinafore I only see notifications from a month ago. Are we getting another big wave of users to the Fediverse?
Part 2 of my Comix Zone livestream is now up on @damagecontrolblog's YouTube channel. In this part I eventually make it out of the temple and into the game's final stage. Unfortunately, I get my butt kicked and have a hard time getting back there.
This makes me wonder if the PS5 slim digital is selling well, or if everyone is just going for the disc model. It's not a terrible deal (not great either) if you can nab a disc drive at MSRP instead of scalper prices.
