Our garden is blooming.
Today, I shopped at Costco with my daughter wearing my ,la hat, mask, and rainbow Crocs. All of a sudden, a stranger came charging toward me, and I felt a little unsure. My daughter was ready to defend her mom.
It turned out to be a woman who was my client twenty plus years ago. I was managing a homeless shelter for survivors of domestic violence. I worked with her family for two years. When I saw her last, she and her two children were in an apartment, had purchased a used car, she had a good job, and her record had been expunged.
Today, she told my daughter I had changed her life, but I corrected her because she changed her life.
She clearly is in a good place now. I told her how happy I was to know she and her children are safe and well.
It is a small world.

I wore my new hat today.
My grandkids love it.

Yesterday was banana bread day, and today I'm baking morning glory muffins.
Lots of grating of carrots and apples happened. It was worth it.
Most of the thirty muffins will be for the freezer. We will see how many make it that far. I can't resist eating a muffin hot out of the oven with melted salted butter.
Oh my goodness, what a treat.
I was bad, and at the last minute, I added white chocolate chips to the batter. That immediately made them double tasty.
Muffins for lunch it is.

Summer and I left her pal outside in the shade while we came in the house to fold laundry.
For a few minutes, I sat down on the floor so we could have an, eye to eye, serious chat.
I explained that her pal is going to a doctor appointment at the VA tomorrow morning, and then he will meet with the field rep for our congressman.
I told her how I have tried everything to meet the VA requirements in filing for his permanent 100% disability but I had to tell him so far I have failed.
So he decided as a last resort he would go to ask for help in person. I know talking about his medical issues isn't easy for him.
I told her that I don't believe disabled veterans should have to justify their pain and suffering over and over.
Summer says all she can do is offer love and support.
I guess that's all any of us can do.

Summer has lots of extra joy today.
She woke me up early, so we snuck outside and let her pal sleep in.
She was busting with playful energy.
I will do my best to keep up.

I motored into town to drop off an apple pie and a large container of freshly cubed watermelon to the grandkids.
The look I got when I handed the pie to our youngest grandson and he realized it was still warm was priceless.
While I was parked next to the native plant garden in their front yard, I caught this bee hard at work.
The boys all came outside to spend a few minutes with their grandma in the afternoon sun. I was tickled pink.

When I was growing up, Humboldt was foggy a lot.
The last few years have been less foggy, and we were seeing more colorful sunsets.
This summer is closer to the Humboldt from my youth, so Summer and I were happy to see some color in the sky at the end of the day today instead of a gray wall of fog.
Enjoying the sunset with a sweet cuddly Summer dog is maybe the best part of the day. Getting rewarded for our patience with beautiful color makes it twice as nice.

More raspberries to use before they spoil.
This has been the best raspberry harvest ever for us. We are getting raspberried out. I'm going to freeze the rest for later.
Not sure who gets this fresh, hot out of the oven, raspberry/blackberry pie.
I will find it a good home one way or another.

I should probably start thinking about all the beautiful apples that will be ready to pick in September. Last year, we kept about half, and my daughter gave the other half away one five gallon bucket at a time.
There will be pies and applesauce for sure.
Last year, the hummingbirds got their share, too.

I never took naps unless I was sick until I retired. Now, a nap always sounds like a good idea.

Sometimes, you get just exactly what you wanted when you start flowers from seeds.
Last year my marigold starts ended up looking nothing like the picture on the packet of seeds. This year, they are exactly right.
I wanted bright color at the front door until the begonias started blooming.
I started so many seeds that we have marigolds here there and everywhere.
