who's to say all the advancement we've got now isn't to the goals we see today... Capitalists learned they can exploit your brain chemicals for their benefit and kept doing it bigger and better.
Can't load 250GB of your exploitation model into memory yet? Poke the manufacturers until you can load 3TB at a time. That's definitely enough.
Can't even trust the browser anymore. Can't even open my own fucking fedi instance in w3m or lynx because it requires javascript (as if the text is utterly required to move or some shit)
Can't even trust your ISP, despite giving me stupid fast internet, it's still Google, which means they're absolutely farming something for their benefit. Maybe it's because it makes YouTube/ad serving free for them.
money rly fucked everyone didn't it
i think I've fully entered the reject modernity phase.
I distinctly remember a lot of my childhood just building useless forums on the free multi-forum hosts over and over because it was just something to do.
@kaia pretty sure it's two parts, neither is required by IANA or anything...
- prevent conflicts of interest between customer and registry. you might not want to do direct business with Verisign if you are a competitor/enemy to Verisign. You'd pay Gandi who will pay Verisign on your behalf minus margin.
- separation and simplification of concerns, where the registrar is possibly an abstraction of many registries. You can do business with one total registrar but get many TLDs owned by any number of parties.
@4censord@kaia I get crazy inconsistent results with this even. The first time, I had shown everything, plus neovim atomic-writing and the birth time/mod time reset.
An "atomic write" to a file will write out the new content to a temporary file, delete the old file, and move/rename the temporary file to the old file path.
This would always cause a file to have a mod and create time to be the same.
If you're editing with any text editor or flat-file database, they all do this since it prevents data loss if the write fails.
