This is a really interesting paper on how stress reduces prefrontal cortex performance. My therapist is always like “if you’re stuck, first remove all stress” and now I can see why.
A fun excerpt: “Lead poisoning has also been proposed to have been the cause of the fall of the Roman empire, as the wealthy class ate foods preserved in lead syrup and ate from lead utensils. The poor decision making and impulsive behaviours of the wealthy class consistent with PFC dysfunction — led to the downfall of a great empire.“ 🤷
“Researchers measured autistic people against neurotypical expectations and called every difference a deficit. They tested empathy by measuring in-group preference and missed commitment to universal fairness. They measured creativity by counting the number of ideas and missed originality. They saw moral consistency and called it rigidity. They saw deep engagement and called it rigidity. They saw sensory richness and called it disorder.” https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/positively-different/202601/what-the-world-got-wrong-about-autistic-people
@nikitonsky Reminds me of my mom‘s ca. 2000 TV, but the other way around: tiny and nothing special TV, but a Philippe Starck designed remote. Not that that would‘ve helped with the interaction design 🤷♂️
@scott You can check https://gaza-verified.org/ for validity. @aral is doing a lot of vetting to make sure there are real people behind those accounts …
Ugh, DHH referencing Kathy Sierra hits hard. He‘s part of and driver of a toxic culture that makes the online existence of brilliant minds like Kathy‘s impossible. It has been many years and I‘m still angry about what was done to her and I miss reading her 😢🐴❤️
@nikitonsky Cinema can be so much fun with creative programming! The director of my favourite cinema to also created this interactive platform so more people can go see great classics.
@aral Haha, could've been 😅 But no, it's «Klartext» as in «speak plainly» / «put the truth on the table».
He's singing about his life as a hip hop workaholic, who is driven to work because he can't stand it when bad Swiss rap acts are equated with Swiss hip hop.He feels that it can't be that the industry says «it’s too much work, so let's just put our efforts into good marketing» without earning their spurs. He believes rap is art and if you feel it's just a product, then please stop rapping.
@aral That was fun! I don't really listen to hip hop except when it's in my mother tongue as sung by Sektion Kuchikäschtli. Languages are beautiful and we need to enjoy them, full stop :)
@aral Yeah, if it clicks, it clicks, and if it doesn't there's other things to try :) The main thing I took away from all this was to stay humble and really understand that we're all just temporarily abled, as Cindy Li put it.
@aral Something to try also: while keeping space pressed, flip the keyboard to write one handedly. This worked surprisingly well for me when it was necessary! It was amazing to see how the brain can adapt.
