@danirabbit Thank you for all you do. I haven't once looked back since switching to elementary OS (and this is coming from someone with a history of distro-hopping)! Will keep spreading the word, rocking my elementary OS merch, and donating!
Calling a Mullvad co-founder's donation to fascists "controversial" is weak. But when I see this sort of thing from another "anti-Big Tech" initiative, I remember why I want to move forward with @thepeoplestech. I'm so tired of the placation of right-wing politics; to me it is all connected.
Energy bills are soaring, and the King is making profit at our expense. It’s medieval! King Charles says he cares about the environment, so you’d expect him to stand behind cheap, clean power. I’ve signed the petition to demand the Crown Estate lower fees on seabeds and make wind farms more affordable to build. Will you join me? https://act.gp/48TINlv
Trying to find more information on how the under-15 social media ban in France impacts Mastodon/fediverse servers, and while I can't see anything too concrete on that, I did come across this 2024 The Guardian article:
"The report said a 15-year-old should be able to access only what it called “ethical” social media, such as Mastodon."
The scariest thing about new #AgeVerification laws being introduced in Europe (France, I was expecting more from you) is to see the positive reactions of my family members, who have fallen hook, line and sinker for the arguments discussed in the media. "It's to protect the children!" No it isn't.
"The Yuncheng roof rain system runs off evaporative cooling, which is the same way sweat cools you down. The mist particles absorb ambient heat (often via conduction), until they evaporate, but only a few molecules at a time. Whatever remains is cooler, which lowers the surrounding temperatures." https://www.bgr.com/2211899/how-china-viral-rooftop-rain-system-cool-down-explained/
"Doctors Without Borders, known by its French initials MSF, has called for the immediate release of Palestinian healthcare workers imprisoned by Israel. The NGO said in a statement on Monday that it was 'outraged by the treatment of healthcare workers, most of whom are being detained in dire conditions, without justification or cause'." https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2026/7/20/msf-demands-israel-release-detained-palestinian-healthcare-workers
For those interested, as part of a growing movement of digital rights organisations, one of my latest ventures is @thepeoplestech, which aims to help people find alternatives to Big Tech at the intersection of privacy, security, sustainability and inclusivity.
I attended this last night and it was even better than I expected, just superb stuff from @jim, @megafreda.eurosky.social and @jmaris - and inspired (and inspiring!) breakout room discussions too. (It was so nice to chat with @JamesBaker and others to throw around ideas such as servers for your local community!)
I changed my forenames to non-binary names at frickin' age eleven -- because I knew even then, despite the fact I came out just a few years back. I knew!
