hi! this is an unusually utilitarian post for me haha. but, if you're someone in chicagoland who can travel to or within the suburbs, and you're pretty good at and enjoy HEARTS, i'd love to pass you along to someone who organizes hearts tournaments a couple times a year. i've played in a few and always had fun. the group is mostly older men, but everyone was always polite to me, the youngest person there and one of the only women haha. get in touch if this is you. #chicago#games
this is an important illustration of how much framing matters in journalism. the KEY difference is that usa today repeats USC's own language as the truth. they canceled it over safety. la times headline explains that it's what USC claimed. journalists can't repeat institutional PR claims as truth.
also tbh -- how much photo selection matters. usa today's explicitly appeals to conservative values like authority and tradition
it's dies saturni, a day of renewal, gathering, introspection, and scholarship.
let's write some micropoetry. (i'm not a poet! you don't have to be either.) leave a reply with five words, just individual words, as a prompt. keep it SFW & no bigotry etc.
then anyone who wants to will write a poem, 50 words tops, using part/all of the prompt. please CW your reply so others can write without seeing your poem first.
@HauntedOwlbear I honestly think a lot of us of other genders encounter a ton of blowhards before we even know what that is or to question them. And I'd believe that scares us into feeling inadequate, because almost no one with a real knowledge base feels that cultishly confident in it.
@turgon@HauntedOwlbear oh nick oh no! No One thinks that! The second part is the funny part. Everyone please know Nick is one of the best (at just being a really kind family man and citizen) and I admire him for over 20 years now (oof)
Something you may not know is that every subject area's fringe is crowded with random men who are sure they know a shortcut to something extraordinarily difficult. They don't even believe a conspiracy or something. They just have "idk I think I could get bronze at the Olympics if I really tried"-itis but for every academic and practical discipline on earth
@NoraReed i'm sorry. this is disappointing to hear. when i had escalating cysts, my doctor, who was thankfully also a surgeon, booked me in for a procedure quite quickly. i've sometimes wondered if he was overreactive, even, but taking it seriously and wanting to treat it seems so much better than the alternative. are the results from the urogyn you trust? maybe the paradigm has just changed for what they do for treatment. the pain stuff is terrible though, i'm sorry.
@NoraReed NO AHHH. well, if it's a practice or department -- chase any of them if you want to. either way, i'm sorry, it sucks to have them and it's not right to leave you in pain this way.
if you have a beloved game (or a few!) on these platforms that's on sale right now -- would love to hear about it in the replies.
i just bought "against the storm," which would not look like my speed at first but @Krikket @mindly.social mentioned loving it and led me to the polygon review of it. and one of my favorite friends just told me he also "LOVES IT" (bold and italic)
i also bought "lesbiants," an adult game about ants and trans lesbians.
