@gyozaPower@notjustbikes Pretty similar situation here in Singapore as well. After years of putting in pretty bad and half-hearted cycling infrastructure, our country is now finally starting to put in serious cycling infrastructure. For example, in the suburban new town of Ang Mo Kio, they are constructing a new separated cycling road together with expansions works to an existing metro station (which will be a stop on a new metro line).
@dansup still no. I believe there are better ways to screen out spammers than providing a number. Besides, pretty sure the spammers will figure out a way to work around the requirement.
@dansup sorry, but most likely no. If it’s for 2-factor authentication, phone/SMS-based ones have also been shown to be less secure as well as they are susceptible to SIM-hacking attempts.
Mastodon already has built-in app-based 2FA support, and I’m already using it for my account. There’s no need to use mobile phones for this.
If you are on one of the many Fediverse platforms and want to be more discoverable I highly suggest adding your profile to this opt-in directory. If you aren’t sure how: first, add the #fedi22 hashtag to your profile’s bio, then go to the directory’s website, click on the menu > Directory, click “Add Account”, and follow the instructions from there.
You may also want to add more relevant hashtags to your bio first to improve discoverability.
@Gargron to be honest I think this is really a return to form for internet social media. I’m old enough to remember when the internet was truly a decentralised affair where you didn’t have just a handful of faceless corporations controlling 99% of the platforms or content you use or see. Mastodon kind of feels like if someone took Twitter and applied good old IRC’s design/decentralisation philosophy to it.
