I really doubt most programmers think lisp or the popular lisp books are actually these amazing mind-blowing things but the material has been elevated to such a degree that they're afraid to say they think it's nonsense
well I'm not afraid. that shit is hot garbage and pointing someone at some hippy dippy book written 50 years ago by retards on shrooms is just going to convince them programming sucks

the real value of a structured program of education is forcing you to learn shit you aren't interested in but that nevertheless matters

throughout my entire adult life I've met people who saw some skill I had and wanted to learn it for themselves
but none of them ever wanted to put in the work. back when I was still naive enough to try to play mentor I would tell them things they should do, they would consistently fail to do them, and then they would get frustrated and angry at their lack of improvement. as if just expressing an interest in learning was enough to make it happen. and of course every single one of them gave up after a few months
if you're not willing to put in the work, to be bad at something, to struggle anyway and practice, practice, practice, you are simply never going to be good. and it's entirely your fault you suck

@KarlDahl you have to be willing to suck and most people aren't

this is a pretty dumb take. students are not just cheating their way through art appreciation and african basket weaving and then working hard on math, physics, and engineering classes. cheaters cheat on everything
you could pare away all the liberal arts classes and STEM students would still cheat their asses off. the fact that the goal is to get a job does not excuse cheating your way through an engineering program because you decided it's dumb to have to actually learn engineering
most of the blatant cheating I saw in college was in the hard courses, not english 101
