for the younger ones, an mp3 file is like a spotify track that you can listen to offline and don't have to pay for each month and it doesn't run ads.

is there any way to disable the Discord desktop app's activity detection? I know how to disable activity sharing, and I can disable activity detection on a per game basis, but every time I add a new game or app it will detect it and I need to disable it manually, which means it's still doing activity detection, and definitely sending that data to Discord... And there does not seem to be an option in the settings to disable this entirely.

here i am trying to figure out what kind of arithmetic shifts are allowed in C and it turns out the answer is none of them, because any bitwise shift with a negative value (either operand) is undefined behavior.
don't design languages like this pls.

@eniko I agree! But also the Godot folks kinda brought this on themselves, naming their engine after someone who never shows up...

@eniko What other famous literary/cultural figures should we name game engines after. How about Judas,

has anyone looked into the theory of and type systems for JIT-like optimizations, where a logical type (e.g. arbitrary size integers) is represented by efficient physical types (e.g. fixed size integers, perhaps for various sizes) and there are run time guards to handle overflows and such, that will switch to a less efficient implementation. does anyone have any references for this sort of thing?

new* theory: at the end of Fellowship of the Ring (AKA Lord of the Rings Disc 1), as Frodo departs on a boat and Sam wades into the river after him, Sam fully drowns in that comically deep river. The rest of the trilogy is all happening in Sam's head moments before he dies.

I love how students in Japan who don't join a school club are said to be part of the "going home" club ( 帰宅部 = きたくぶ ). That's my club!
