This is why I've always been pretty resistant to the idea that the fash are coming for the liberal establishment quite frankly. Yes there is a point in the distant future where they will run out of leftists and marginalized people to isolate, persecute and eliminate, but influential liberals will be incentivized to simply join up with the nazis long before that, and everything about both history and their current behavior suggests they'll take it.
And like, I've heard all the excuses; shit like "we have go where the customers/eyeballs are" and so forth - but all you're really saying is "fascism is profitable" and "there's a baseline point where I will happy go along to get along with fascism and it's not based on what's morally right so much as how many people embrace American nazism." Which is A) unsurprising and B) the "it was a different time" excuse for fascist collaboration.
(all of which is of course besides the point that by running to Bluesky they're just opening themselves up to fascist surveillance as nazis and the reactionary tech right invest in THAT platform; but one hill at a time I guess...)
Obviously the 2nd best time to get off Twitter is "now," but I do find it very telling that the mainstream center really didn't care enough to bother until it affected them. They were quite fine swimming around in fascist propaganda and Elon's ecosystem of disinformation until they lost an election. Which says a lot of about normalized fascist ideology is and has been for a long time in American life.
@chawopro Actually, that's a good idea. Unfortunately my Bunn died a while ago and we replaced it with a boring regular coffee maker, so it's going to take me 15 minutes to brew coffee - but I'm going to go do that now. Bbiaf.
Awake; and slightly irked about it. Was having incomprehensible nightmares when I feel asleep last night and at some point they finally ended so I was getting good deep sleep. And then I woke up to well, this, and I'm not thinking that's a good trade.
Brb, fighting fascism and avoiding nazi surveillance by *checks notes* signing up for an account on a social media service partially owned by close friends of Steve Bannon...
90% of what you're saying, was still true in 2020 when Joe Biden won by 6M+ votes. Biden, who is NOT a Black woman, running on the same platform Harris did in 2024, was on pace to lose 400 EC votes and would have underpeformed Harris.
It was the platform. They ran as fascism lite to court white Republicans and burned; same as 2016 w/ Clinton
@Nanard_Groubiche Literally everything in your charge is expressed as a PERCENTAGE of voters; it's not raw numbers, it doesn't account for 10M people not voting.
@Nanard_Groubiche In 2020 they ran on "end the forever wars, reign in police violence, dismantle the migrant carceral complex, and punish fascists" and got 81M votes.
This time they ran on "we're doing a genocide, we love cops, student protestors are antisemitic terrorists, we hunt migrants better than fascists and the Cheneys love us."
It doesn't take a genius to figure out why they blew 10M votes, across literally every demo.
You're welcome to your opinion but I do not agree. Good day.
@Nanard_Groubiche I disagree firmly with your argument. They attacked their own base. Furthermore, I am not interested in gaming out how a Democratic Party that serves capital that's boiling us all to death can "come back" from this.
@Nanard_Groubiche It's not that simple. Joe Biden's numbers were much worse than where Harris finished. The Dems bled voters across all demos, not just white dudes, and Trump didn't gain any votes.
To put it politely, the Dem base, as a WHOLE, did not want to vote for a Republican - and that's what Harris ran as.
@HeavenlyPossum I mean remember, this is the guy who pushed the 1994 Crime Bill into law and had to be told by Obama himself to stop talk talking about how they were gonna crack heads when they got into office on the 2008 campaign trail; long after it was clear that his bill was basically a license to warehouse AA men for white supremacy and profit.
Basically I'm just saying Joe doesn't have a conscience. I wasn't going after you or your post.
@HeavenlyPossum That's fair, I guess, but I just don't think that guy gives a fuck.
I wasn't giving you a hard time, and agreed with the thrust or your post; my main point is that if Joe Biden can help cluster bomb children and refugees, my guess is nothing haunts that guy.
